*boston university rd class of 2020 thread*

Did you get acceptance through mail or email? Does it mention Financial aid too?

My daughter got accepted to the College of Engineering. Awarded almost $32K merit (BU Grant). California resident
Intended major: Biomedical Engineering
No word about the Honors College

Class rank (18/450)
ACT (34E, 33M, 33R, 25S) - 32Comp
SAT (Math 2 - 730, Chem - 610)
GPA (4.5 w, 3.9 uw)
EC (Varsity tennis, 120+ volunteer work, Key Club)
Course load - heavy (9 AP classes)

Good luck to everyone!

D “Waitlisted” CAS
2110 SAT (over 700 on every section) over 700 on all SAT II
National Merit Commended
3.4 / 4.0 average uw. All honors classes. top 10%
Showed interest/ visit.
Excellent and unique extracurriculars.

Leadership positions in competitive clubs.

Disappointing.

Are BU grants more prestigious/difficult to earn than Presidential? It seems like they award more money through the grants

Grants are financial aid, not merit. You must be eligible per financial aid forms.

they say that academics are a key factor for the grants tho
plus amounts differ a lot

Grants are not merit scholarships; they are financial aid, sometimes just a different form of it than typical federal aid; grants are often given by the university and/or state versus the mostly “federal” student aid you hear above.

@Ajdhfh If you are choosing colleges based on financial aid you can pretty much forget about NYU. They are known for their stingy grants. They have a super high tuition and is known for not giving their students enough money.

Thanks for the explanations!

Accepted to CAS

UW: 3.4
W: 4.55 (val has a 5.2, it’s a weird scale)
ECs: 7/10 - nothing too impressive, but acceptable
Essay: 8/10
Recs: 8/10 - read one, it was pretty good
SAT: 2270, with 1600 math + CR
6 APs: (5, 5, ?, ?, ?, ?)

Also accepted to NEU with $14k per year and BC
Not sure what colleges seem to like about my application because I honestly didn’t think I’d get in anywhere…

Edit:
Had a downward grade trend too. Only 1 A my junior year, but counselor explained that 3 of my grandparents had cancer that year so maybe that was able to explain it due to stress on me.

Guaranteed Transfer for CAS

31 ACT
2060 SAT
3.8 GPA uw

Accepted into game design programs at RPI, Northeastern and RIT.

Accepted! So happy, it’s only the 3rd out of 11 schools I applied to that I’ve heard back from. Can’t wait to see what other choices I’ll have!

@SilverOakMom there is no such thing as “met all criteria” in selective college admissions because it is holistic and goes beyond just the stats. Whoever told you that misled you.

@wild23 CAS!

@Ajdhfh - BU was indeed a target for you! But a target is not a safety, it means you have a good shot, but with acceptance rates in the 30% range anything can happen. BC and Northeastern were reaches, your counselor was not correct. NYU is a low reach for you and USC a bit reacher, but again, you have a shot and anything can happen!

Hi guys!! Congratulations to everyone that was accepted. Hope to see some of you guys during an open house!

@trekslxchick Thanks. I’ve come to the realization that UCF and RIT may be the only colleges to admit me, and I’m starting to accept that haha. Thank you for your help!

Hey sorry guys, how do you find what program you were admitted for on the BU website?

ACCEPTED!!! =D
