@extraneous101 endocrinology
Congrats! I might see you there. I’m in endocrinology though
wow congrats to all who got accepted! My application was received last thursday and even though the decision is probably a ways off I’m already nervous lol. I want to go so bad; it sounds like such an amazing experience! But I applied to Biomed and Medical Lab Research which I’m sure is very competitive :’(. Did anyone apply to any other research programs?
Did you guys get an confirmation email? I got an email after I submitted my online application but I also sent an email asking about the status of my recommendations but no response yet
Also, did you guys submit a resume?
Same, I got both the confirmation email and the status email, still haven’t received a response 3 days later…
I got an email entitled “Boston University Research Internship in Science and Engineering Completed Application Receipt”. Also, I think they’re flooded with emails right now, but if you call, they can check for your application materials right away.
@youngbin97 When I emailed them about my application status, it took them a few days to reply. So they’ll probably email you soon; they probably have a lot of emails right now. And, I didn’t think that they needed a resume, so I didn’t submit one.
Applied EA, no news yet. Anyone on the same boat here?
Same here. Got an email last week stating that they were reviewing the materials pending decision.
Last email received was on 3/2/2015 saying app was under review. What did the email say?
Text of BU’s response
“Thank you for your Early Decision application to the Boston University Research Internship in Science & Engineering Program (RISE). We are in the process of reviewing your materials and hope to be in touch soon about the status of your application. If we require any additional information, we will let you know.”
I emailed BU about my application to make sure everything was completed and good for review. But they replyed saying they stil have not received my teacher recommendation letter yet. But, my teacher said she mailed it off on March 13th, about two weeks ago. I am really worried that it got lost or something. I asked my teacher if she could mail the copy she made, but i think BU is really strict on that “postmarked by the 16th” rule. I hope they still consider my application…
Hey guys! I applied to the RISE program as well- Early Decision. I thought I didn’t get all my materials on time, but as long as it’s all postmarked by the application dates, I’m sure they’ll consider you @NewEra14 I wouldn’t worry. Long story short, I got in. However, for those of you who haven’t gotten anything back, remember that it takes them a while to pair you up with a professor and a lab that is suitable for the type of research you are looking for. Don’t worry if you haven’t gotten anything yet- three of my friends from school applied as well and though two of them got deferred to the regular pool, they haven’t gotten letters back yet. Their stats are super good too so I doubt they won’t get in.
Speaking of stats, I got a 34 on the ACT, I took AP Biology, I’m taking AP Chemistry, AP English Language and Composition, APUSH, and BC Calc. My grades are honestly not that great. Maybe like a 3.7-3.9 GPA unweighted? I don’t know my school isn’t the best at updating GPAs. Although this program is selective, if you have a good essay and initiative, they seem like they’re definitely willing to take you.
Good luck guys! And remember, don’t worry. Not everybody will get acceptance letters on the same day so just hang in there!
@NewEra14 The same thing happened to my teacher recommendation and my friend’s recommendation/transcript. I feel like they’ve been losing a lot of mail lately, so don’t be afraid to email every few days about your application status! If you’re still really worried, ask your teacher to scan the recommendation and email it to them instead.
@dancegirl98…congrats!
i applied ED and still havent heard back either… i wish i could know if i made it or not so i can decide what to do with my summer haha but good luck to you guys!
@dancegirl98 which subject area did you apply to?
In general, for your essays did you guys talk about the generals of why you chose the research area that you did? i.e. I chose physics because I’ve always enjoyed learning physics. Or did you talk about a specific area in the subject area you requested that you wanted to study? i.e. I chose physics because I’m interested in further investigating the implications of the photoelectric effect in my research project.
i didnt want to make my essay too specific by citing a specific research topic bc i thought it would be harder for them to pair you up with a professor/lab. so i just talked about my passion for the subject and past experience mostly
Yeah same, I just talked about how I enjoyed the subjects in general. For the people who’ve already been accepted and assigned research areas like endocrinology (for example), did they assign you that position based on your essay or some kind of survey you took after you were accepted?
