Boston University School of Communication

I was wondering if I should apply to the school of communication instead of the school of Arts and sciences.

Would it make my chances of admission a lot smaller? Or would it be almost the same?

I looked online everywhere for more information on the admission requirements/rates but couldn’t find anything.

I’d really appreciate if someone could tell me which school–arts and sciences OR communication–I would be better off applying to.

Thank you!

whichever school has the major u want

are you sure? what do you mean?

because on the supplement, you choose a major according to the school.

For example, the school of communication at BU has film and television and television majors listed under it…if that makes any sense.

Apply where you want to major. If you want film / tv, then you apply to COM. That’s the way it works.

I believe you can transfer from CAS into COM and my understanding is that CAS has somewhat lower stats than COM.

Would it make my chances significantly smaller to do so?

That’s what I’m worried about.

really no change in chances. the only schools more difficult to get into than the others are cfa and eng.

I don’t think that’s correct anymore, Ali.

My roommate works in the admissions office and her boss told her that the hardest schools to get into these days are SMG and COM.

COM is hard to get into but easy to graduate from.

If you want to be in CAS, apply there. Most of BU’s students are in CAS, and even though most apply there, the numbers work out. I can’t imagine it’d be harder to get into at all. I’ve heard rumors like Hanita, where COM is harder to get admitted into (although it truly is arguably easier to get a degree from), but it could be just because there are less spots. Anyways, don’t overthink it.

wow if that’s the case then im pretty shocked. i havent heard anything of the sorts from anyone i know in com or smg, and im still living on bu’s campus with undergrads.
