My S and I just returned home from our weekend trip to Boston for his audition. Needless to say, it was an interesting experience, for me at least.

First of all, I wonder why I never see too much about this school on the forum? Because, let me tell you, that building is COLD! C-O-L-D Cold! I had the shivers, my S had the shivers. Heck, even that guy with the cool voice doing to presentation had the shivers. EVERYBODY had the shivers!

And the man said that in the studio, all the kids where movement clothes which means shorts and t-shirts and such...how is anybody supposed to be artistic when they got the AC going full blast in their face? Doesn't make any sense. And for the amount they charge?
Anybody else have an experience like this?
My S, though, he loves that program. Doesn't want to go anywhere else now. Is BU that much better?

He said he wants to be a theatre arts major but I don't know I feel about that. If I'm gonna pay for acting school, I think my S should be an acting major. What say you? Also, how many kids they take? Good couple hundred, I hope...they said close to 1,000 audition!

There’s plenty about BU on this forum. It’s one of the best theatre programs in the country.

The Theatre Arts track at BU is wonderful; the training is just as good as that for Acting track students. Theatre Arts at BU prepares students to be well-rounded theatre artists; people with a kind of background who tend to have better employment opportunities than those who concentrate more narrowly on Acting.

^^Had to laugh at the comment about AC blasting…I’m pretty sure the issue during the summer program was that there was NO air conditioning! My son fell in love with that facility, not to mention the program, and heard a lot of great things about both theater studies and acting tracks. And back to the original question–I’m pretty sure they’re running around enough that they warm up pretty quickly. :)

Of course, had to chime in! S is going to BU school of theatre in the fall. His friend from high school is a freshman this year. They took 50 kids this year (two classes of 25), which was high for the program, but BU on a whole has stated that they are taking LESS freshmen next year. Don’t know if that will become a downward trend, and I don’t know how that will impact each school on campus. Did they say they were auditioning 1000 this year? Could be that the Class of 2017 is just an artsy bunch!

From their website:
“And this year, we expect the competition to be even greater, as the Class of 2017 will have 100 fewer students.”
