Hi all, I am an incoming BU freshman, and I am interested in joining a medium level student orchestra. I don’t plan on majoring or taking any courses in Music, just pursuing my interest in playing the violin in a no-pressure environment! Does anybody have any knowledge of any student orchestras affiliated with BU? I’ve been doing a good bit of research on the web, but I haven’t found any information anywhere :(.

Note that I don’t have much experience playing in an orchestra. Where I live there aren’t orchestras within miles! So a very experienced orchestra may be out of my league.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

There’s an all campus orchestra that’s kids not in CFA. It is actually quite good. Start there. The conductor is nice.

Thank you sir, I will look into it.

It seems a bit difficult though. I took a look at their performances and they played some intense pieces. Does anybody know of any other organizations that are perhaps easier and don’t require an audition? If not, I guess i’ll try auditioning for the All-Campus.

There are ensembles but not orchestras that I’m aware of.
