Boston University Summer Challenge

I was looking into applying for the Boston University Summer Challenge. I just want to know from the people who has done it what it is like. What are the people like, and how social is the experience? Overall, is the program worth it?

I attended the BU Summer Challenge Program this past summer and I am not lying when I say they were two of the best weeks of my life. I took Journalism and Communications which were both thought provoking courses that provided for interesting class discussions. The professors were awesome and strived to create a personal relationship with each student (the classes were fairly small with around 15 students, though there were almost 400 students total.) Though professors did assign homework every night, it was manageable and at no point did I feel completely overwhelmed by my work load.

The social aspect of BUSC was really wonderful too. I went in to the program nervous to meet new people and came out with a group of new best friends from all over the globe. I'm actually going to visit my roommate in her hometown soon!! Though I was scared to meet new people, I found it remarkably easy since everyone there was so nice.

Our PA's (which I also cannot brag enough about) were so chill and helpful and acted big sisterly/brotherly to those on their floors. They were really flexible about what we could do/where we could go and as long as we were with another student, we could pretty much explore Boston however we wanted. You receive a lot of freedom with this program- however that freedom also comes with a lot of responsibility. Curfew is 10 on weeknights and 11 on weekends (don't break it, it turns your PA into a stressful mess lol) but after curfew check you can pretty much roam around Warren Towers (the dorm) until 1 on week nights and 2 on weekends.

If you decide to do this program:
  1. BRING A BIG FAN!!! Warren Towers is not air conditioned and so w/o a fan (lol actually even with a small fan,) staying in your dorm room gets to be miserable. My roommate and I had two fans at the start of the program and ended up having to buy another one. A girl on our hall had her parents rush order her a huge fan and send it to her. Bring one.
  2. Bring shoes that are easy to walk in--you walk A LOT
  3. Honestly it sounds cliché and dumb but just be yourself ?? Don't be afraid to talk to people ??
  4. Be prepared for a painful goodbye. Tears. So many tears.
