Regarding the Boston University Research Internship in Science and Engineering (part of their summer high school honors program).

http://www.bu.edu/summer/program_high_school_students/honors/?flash

There's information on their website and in brochure, but I find it strange that I can't find ANY reference to it on CC.

Is there anyone out there who has done the program, has any knowledge of it, would recommend it, wouldn't recommend it, etc.?

Thanks.

it costs $4-5k
that's not an internship, that's a money-sucking machine

Yes, I see that it's expensive. They also offer financial aid. My main concern is whether or not it's a valuable experience. If so, it might be worth going through the paperwork. If not, not.

But thanks for your comments.

i'm sure it's valuable, although there are certainly programs out there that are at least as valuable experience-wise for half the price

the way i see it, summer programs aren't about paying to get the best professors and opportunities, but about the people you're with, and expensive programs tend to be forced to lower their selectivity because of the price, so you may end up with a bunch of rich kids rather than a bunch of intelligent thoughtful people
that's why my only summer options are TASP and TRASP

don't get me wrong though, i'm sure it's a great experience either way

Well, yes, I was, in fact, concerned that finances would limit applications. But I believe they accept only 20-something participants for the research internship (the regular honors program may be another story), so I figured there had to be some level of competitiveness. I also figure there are lots of intelligent thoughtful people out there who don't manage to get selected for TASP or RSI, or any of the other free or almost-free programs.

But what I really want to know is -- has anyone out there actually participated in this program and if so, was it worth it?
