Has anyone heard of Boston University Summer Term, a research internship program? Is it quite selective? Is anyone else besides me applying?
Also, would it be advantageous to attend this summer program, do a research project in a field, or would it be better to go to a local college instead to do a project? (living in California)
Thanks!

bump. anyone?

Yeah, I've heard of it. In fact, I have a brochure from BU's summer program/Internship. If I'm not mistaken the research that you do there with a prof. would qualify you for Siemens :)

I’m thinking of applying for this. I also got a brochure in the mail. Only thing I’m worried about is how much the scholarship covers.

anyone know how hard it is to get in? acceptance rates? it doesn’t seem popular. even though its good for siemens, etc.
and yea its expensive. how much financial aid could I expect to get ?
any past alumni with advice?
thanks

Yeah I got accepted in to the Research Internship program there, but I’m contemplating of whether to go or not. You have to actually pay 3.5k or something like that to do research at an institution, when in most cases, the institution usually pays you. I am also wondering of the credentials/ prestige of this program; I know 35 students get accepted approx, but around 100 apply according to their website, so yeahh. And plus, I got in to some local college research internships such as University of Houston, which actually pay me, making my decision tougher.

Any suggestions?

Why is U Houston not a first choice? Is it because it is local and you want to go somewhere further away from home? BU biotech is supposed to be very good if that is what you got accepted for. To me, getting paid = real research internship where you would probably be expected to do some grinding work. Paying for BU is more of a summer school where you have more leisure time and pre-college experience. Money and cost aside, there’s something to be said for either one depending where you are coming from.

Yeah, I got accepted to this too. but I also got accepted to an internship in iowa which is only 2000. Boston seems too expensive but fun. I don’t know what to do. Suggestions?

Yea I got accepted to SSP Ojai (with all costs covered) so I am no longer attending this. Either way, it doesn’t seem to be well known (at least on CC), and is quite expensive.

tomjonesistheman,
what are your stats? I want to do SSP next summer…I want to know what I have to do to get in. Thanks!

Here are my stats, but honestly, if you really enjoy science/physics/astronomy and really want to participate in SSP, you should convey this interest in your essays and make them personal, passionate, interesting, etc.
