Boston University Transfer

Hi, I'm looking to apply to Boston Univ. as a transfer, because I was unable to to apply last year because family issues, and I'm hoping to get in next year. I hoping someone with experience can rate my chances, it would be very helpful to hear insight.

HS GPA: 4.25 (50/500)
College GPA: 3.62 (Currently a freshman)
ACT: 30
EC's:
-College sport (volleyball)
-Student Gov't (Service/Leadership Representative)
-400 service hours (2007-2011)
-Church Leader (Led 4 weekend long retreats of 100 people)
-Medical Scholars Program (Exclusive 2 month program at Wash. U StL)
-Have had a job since soph. year in HS
-Currently Volunteering at a hospital a few days a week
-Major: Currently Comp. Sci, but not sure about it and not sure on if Comp. Sci. is a better admitted transfer major or a pretty exclusive, uninviting transfer major

Any and all response would be most appreciated.

I think you have a very good chance. It’ll be a 100% if you can get your college gpa up to at least a 3.7

^ I think it’s already a 100% chance. BU is not that selective after all.

Actually you’d be surprised. It accepts about half of freshmen applicants, but for transfers (like the op), the admission rate is down near 30%. Also, the acceptance rate is much lower for transfers depending on the school. I know for COM, its very low for transfers, probably less than 20%. Just look at the common data set.

Maybe I responded to another thread for a prospective BU transfer student, but you’re in good position. One of my friends got in straight from a high school - a bright girl with good grades and test scores. But she opted for community college to save money. After two years, she applied with a 3.4 gpa and got accepted, though I’m not sure which program she applied to because on her Facebook it just says “Boston University” lol.

Hey, I’m looking to Transfer to BU. Submitted my application for this Fall. Just waiting on Winter grades and then I can send in my college transcript. (called in and they said it was fine)

College GPA ~3.4
Sophomore at a California Community College
Highschool GPA ~3.0
No SATS or ACT
Tons of Volunteer work and work experience.
Stellar personal statement.
Instructor’s Evaluation should be awesome. Had him as an english professor two quarters in a row. I expect that he was honest and thorough, but fair and kind.
Applying as a journalism major.

I applied to transfer to COMM
I was actually admitted to BU as a freshmen but didn’t go because I want poli sci and was offered a scholarship at another school. Now I’m interested in their advertising program, I really hope I get in!

HS GPA: 3.8
college GPA: 3.53
will be a junior transfer

i just got in!!!

was it on the web applicant or a letter?

web applicant and they’re sending me a letter. they emailed me that my decision was up. admitted to COMM! :)

Since you just got in, looks like bu admission doesn’t require spring grade for the final decision. On bu’s website, it says the notification period for transfer is from mid-may to mid june. So they actually send out offer since April. That would be really. I’m also vert frustrated to see my decision!

thank you! I’m not sure if they do or not, I was admitted as a junior transfer so it may be different for sophomores.

Sorry for my bad english.
This is what I got after informing the admission office if they can fasten my application:

"Thank you for your message. We ask that your counselors send in the most current updated copy of your transcript, as well as any projected grades they may be able to offer. Then, at the end of your year, you may be required to submit your completed transcript.

I hope this information has been helpful. Please feel free to contact our office with any further questions you may have."

They are still ambiguous about the transcript. If they do require, that’s a big problem for me. Because my transcript will not come out till mid june, then it will take at least 1 week for them to process the final decision. It would be really nice if they can just send out offer right now.

I’m in hehehe! That’s awesome but I’m still waiting on so many school. Boston sounds like a good school though. BTW I’m from Portland state U (OR) major in both econ and math with 3.9 GPA after 77 quarter credits.

congrats nicopdx!!! where else did you apply? I’m pretty sure bu is my top choice but i can’t visit until mid-may so the wait still sucks! I’m gonna try to meet with someone to talk about credits transferring

My BU portal finally changed today now its says a message like “The review of your application is now complete”. Did you guys receive this message and if so how long after were you accepted/ denied?

check to see if the options on the side changed, mine had that as the into message and I had to click like view decision on the side
