Boston University - Trustee Scholarship

A little ago I got an email saying I was part of a “select group of students” being considered for admission with the trustee scholarship. Friends of mine that also applied to bu (and who are really good students) didn’t get this email, so I guess it’s a good sign? Did anyone else get this, and how large is the group they’re considering at this point? What are my odds? Thanks!

I am currently attending BU, and I also received the email for this scholar ship last year. What I would say is not not read into the email too much. From asking around they sent this email to a large pool of kids in my freshman class. I still applied to it because I figured why not give it a shot. On their website they state how only 20 incoming freshman are givin this scholarship, which is EXTREMELY selective. I would say to give it a shot and just apply for the scholarship, however if getting this scholarship is the only way you can afford BU, I would look into schools you can afford. Again I would like to enforce how selective this scholarship is, for my class (2021) it was given to 20 out of the 3490 students (ie you have less than 1% chance of getting this scholarship. I’m not trying to sound harsh, but I don’t want you to get your hopes up either).

Best of luck!

Thank you! I understand if you don’t want to answer this, but did you manage to get the presidential scholarship?

Trustee Scholarship recipients are usually cross admits at several Ivies.

Hi @izzy67, my D got that email after she applied and she had applied for the Trustee Scholarship on her application. Did you get the email after you applied or before? if before, it may be something different. at first I thought she was being considered as if she had advanced in the candidates, but after asking around, I think all applicants to the trustee get that email.

also, my D asked how many applicants there were for the scholarship, and she was told by a BU person that last year, there were around 8,000 applicants for the trustee.

@Winky1 based on my experience last year they also sent me an email after I applied for the trustee scholarship, but I ended up not being one of the lucky ones who received that scholarship. I don’t want to come off as sounding negative, but I wouldn’t read into the email as much. Regardless I wish the best of luck to your daughter (as well as the OP)!

we are not thinking it’s anything. I thought I just said that, sorry if I was confusing!

@Winky1 I may has misread what you said, so I apologize as well my bad!

My son REALLY wants to go to BU as well. He applied for both the Presidential and Trustee and many have indicated that these go to the transfers. The BU visit was great with many questions answered. However, with that said…it’s an expensive school. Are there any other options besides these 2 scholarships? What are your stats? My son has a 33 (34 superscored) ACT, 5.2 GPA/4.0 scale, Varsity Football 8A champion, NHS president to name a few. What I loved about BU is that they also take all of his AP classes which basically is a scholarship itself. He received all 5s on his 9 APs

@CatherineF My son received the presidential scholarship and was not a transfer student. There are some other scholarships offered http://www.bu.edu/admissions/apply/tuition-aid-scholarships/scholarships/merit/. I also love that BU took all of my son’s AP credits because you are absolutely right, it is basically an additional scholarship. Good luck to your son.

Does anyone know when and how recipients of the Trustee Scholarship will be notified?

Pretty sure it comes on portal with the admissions decision, as does the honors college notification. @TomSrOfBoston ?

@Winky1 I believe that Trustee recipients have heard a few days before the general release of decisions.

Do they get an email letting them know, or are instructed to check their portals?
