Hoping for some extra help with picking a college
I have a full ride to Fordham and a $36k scholarship for BU. This obviously puts Fordham at an advantage, but from what I’ve read BU might have a better reputation. I do prefer NYC over Boston, but I like the fact that BU is more in the city than Fordham (since I’d be at the Rose Hill campus). Also, I’ll be majoring in Communications, and I know both schools are quite good for that field. Are there any major advantages to picking BU over Fordham? Or vice versa?
Thank you!
For a free ride, and liking NYC more, I’d take Fordham in a heartbeat. $36k at BU still leaves you with over $30k to cover - can you do that with no loans? Debt free is huge.
@NJWrestlingmom I might have to take out a couple of loans for Boston, but my parents said they can cover most of it. They want me to have the best experience and education possible, so we’re basically trying to figure out if BU has any major advantages over Fordham. I visited both schools and Fordham’s “vibe” didn’t really inspire me, but I do know that basically all the signs are pointing me toward Fordham
I’d go with the full ride. Fordham has an excellent communication dept – its radio station is amazing and there are great internship opportunities. (For full disclosure my S went to Fordham but was in the b-school). My gut feeling is 1) BU isn’t worth an additional $120,000 or so 2) it is nice to graduate debt free 3) and you may be able to use the money you aren’t spending for BU for other things down the road (ex. study abroad, grad school, getting started after college etc.). However if you don’t like Fordham and your parents can comfortably afford BU then by all means go for it.
