Boston University vs George Washington

I am a junior in highschool and I recently just visited Boston University and George Washington.
I loved them both and kind of got a whole sense for what they were. I'm looking for a school with a great pre-med program that also has study abroad and internship opportunities.

What I thought of George Washington: Smaller feel than what I expected, more politically based environment, dorms are amazing, great facilities, professors are not as available due to their high positions/demanding jobs, lack of night life (how many times are you going to visit the white house/ all the museums), phenomenal study abroad program, internship opportunities (although the majority are more into politics and business)

What I thought of Boston University: Great location, great facilities, amazing learning environment (with all the other schools within a 5 mile radius), night life is great, only professors teach classes ( no TA's), a great pre-med program (Sargent College: Human Physiology major really interested me), perfect size school i was looking for, probably better internship opportuinites for medicine than GW had, Study abroad program is good.

Is there anything else i should take into consideration/know about these schools? I've limited these as my top 2... Where do you think i should go based on what im looking for?

Also, chance me?
I’m a junior in highschool 3.7 GPA, 1960 SAT (first time/ taking it again in May), haven’t taken SAT 2’s yet.

4 AP’s this year: English, Human Geo, Micro/Macro Economics
5 AP’s senior year: English, Calculus AB, Physics B, Spanish, Psychology

Extracurriculars/Awards:
Beta Club, National Spanish Honor Society, 4 Years Varsity Crew Team, cultural dance team that competes across the country, 300+ hours of community service, honor roll, different clubs, officer of club

I’ll probably do Early Decision to one of the schools after i decide.

bump! please chance?

You sounds really enthusiastic about BU moreos than you are about GWU; both are great schools, and you don’t have to give up DC, as surely BU can open doors to Capitol internships later in college. Personally, I’m a DC, type A person, but if you want closer mentorship as you mentioned, look at Boston! Hope all goes well.

Could you chance me?

why not just do RD for both and make the decision next May?
I think that your stats are good for Boston University and in range for George Washington. Try to get your SAT up 100-200 points and write a good essay. You sound like you know why you like each school so that shouldn’t be hard. Anyways, best of luck to you! :)

bumppppppp
chances?

Well I got into both schools and decided to go to Boston. Why? B/c I like the feel of Boston more, the cost of living in Boston is A LOT less than living in DC, more colleges nearby and easier access to professors. GW also has a 7 year BA/MD program, and so does BU. I know BU’s medical school is ranked higher, but the only downfall is the financial aid. BU is good if you get a scholarship (I got Gates so I’m not that worried); but if you’re going on only grants, you’ll need a lot of outside money via work, parents, scholarships, to help meet the overall cost of attendance. Even though my EFC is 143, I only got $20.5K in grants from BU excluding a subsidized loan worth $3.5K. Overall, it depends on you. If you can afford a higher standard of living, then go to DC. If you’re confident on receiving scholarships or other financial aid, head to BU. O! GW was very generous w/ their financial aid to me, about $50K with the pell grant, scholarships, and university grant excluding loans/work-study. About your chances, you’ll probably get into both. My SAT was 1900, I wrote knock-out essays, and my gpa is 3.78/weighted 6.347. If you have any more ?s about BU/GW, just ask since I’m pretty familiar w/ both. =]

OP: Lack of nightlife in DC? NO.

Hi!! Is this thread still open? I’m actually trying to make a decision between these two schools and would like to hear more about them.

I’ve visited both campuses and thought that I liked GW more. Now, after doing more research, I’m kind of swaying. I’m planning to major in Environmental Studies, so all the internship opportunities at GW would help, except I’m pretty sure BU can offer many good internships too.

Anyways, if someone sees this, help please? Thank you so much!

If you are seriously interested in the pre-med program, you should take a look at the following special 7-year program offered by BU that is somewhat of an accelerated liberal arts/medical school combination but you need to qualify for this program.

[Special Academic Programs » Pre-Professional Advising: Premedical/Prehealth | Boston University](http://www.bu.edu/prehealth/academics/special-academic-programs/)

According to the BU web site: “This highly successful program, and one of the oldest such programs in the nation, provides an outstanding medical education and shortens the overall period of study leading to the MD. It is a collaborative program between the College of Arts & Sciences and the Boston University School of Medicine.”

That said, I am not sure if GWU offers this program and you may want to look into it and get further educated about what it takes to qualify. Good luck.
