Hey everyone! This fall I'm going to be entering my senior year of high school, and I'm starting to think of where I want to apply! I'm going to visit Boston University soon and if I really like it, I will apply Early Decision. I live in Pennsylvania, so I am out of state. I have decent grades---I would just like if I could get some insight from people who recently were admitted to BU so I can see what chances I have! I want to go to the school for communications---if I can't get in, I am okay with the college of general studies and hopefully I can transfer out and into communications at some point.

I also have only taken my SATs one time-I will take them again in October.

SAT SCORES:
Math: 610 (I would like to bring this up and likely will)
Reading: 640 (I would also, ideally, like to bring this up)
Writing: 730
Total: 1980

Does BU look at your score including writing???

CLASSES AND GPA:
9th grade: 4.0 unweighted
10th grade: 3.6 unweighted
11th grade: 3.2 unweighted
Overall unweighted: 3.6 GPA

***This is where I run into a problem. My GPA dropped from year to year. In 9th grade I took all Honors Classes and got straight A's. Granted, it was 9th grade and in my school district it still is in the middle school building---it is just easier in nature than high school. Dropping to a 3.6 my sophomore year I had no real shame-things just got harder. I got a B in my Algebra 2 class (honors) and my biology class (honors). I took ALL honors classes that year as well. However, JUNIOR YEAR is where I plummeted. I know it's no excuse, but I had mono for a while and it took a while to diagnose-basically, I slept everyday after school from after Thanksgiving until about May. My grades obviously suffered. I'm worried about BU seeing that my grades and GPA DROPPED-I didn't improve, I went the opposite way. How bad is this going to hurt me???

More specifically, here are my grades from junior year:

Also, I am soon starting to volunteer regularly at a local soup kitchen (I have my training Saturday)

I'm hoping for (and my hopes are high, I believe that I will get them) solid recommendations from teachers who know me well and know my enthusiasm for school and hard work. My junior year was, as stated above, really really difficult. I know colleges will show no mercy, however. Additionally, my essays should be pretty solid. I also plan on doing an interview, which I think will help. I really am a people person--notto sound too sure of myself, but everyone tells me that. SO does anyone have any thoughts??!! THANK YOU for taking the time to read this. I once was a perfectionist in all I did---and then I let go a little, and that was okay. But once I got sick and lost control, I realized that applying for college was not going to be an easy thing anymore. Thanks again for your time xoxo
