Boston University?

If there is anyone who is currently in BU or graduated recently from BU, could you please explain what are the things Boston University loves to see in applicants?
For example, what is a recommended(?) score in SAT and what are they looking for in applicant essays. What are the qualities BU looks for in the applicants and what do they most want to see in essays. What is BU most concerned about - volunteer hours? applicant essays? characters/ qualities? how many rigorous courses they have taken? how many IB/AP courses they have taken or SAT II Subject tests? etc.

You can google to find the Common Data Set to see the mid 25 to 75% of SAT scores of accepted students. The CDS will also have a section of things that are Very Important, Important and Considered.

You might like to do some reading in the BU forum.

I’m a high school student from Nevada but I just had a BU admissions counselor visit my school. She said they don’t have a GPA average but instead an “A-” average (3.4-3.7 i assume). Average Composite SAT score is 2016. They want community service and extracurriculars and to be honest, compared to the Cali and Nevada schools I will probably end up going to, BU had the most demanding admissions process. Not multiple essays but one or two essays that had multiple components/questions to them plus an essay explaining “why you want to attend BU? and not just the city of Boston”. I hope this helps!

Passion for BU. Specific proof of that passion. Passion for learning and an open mind. DD is a junior …loved every minute! This is what she tells people on her admissions tours who ask this question. The kiss of death is to talk about how you want to live in Boston with only vague references to BU specifically. Do your research. Go Deep. Watch the BU tweets for Dean Elmore. BU Today also gives you some info, although it is not published by students.

Thank You so much all of you! It helped so much (:

They look first and foremost at how you have done in your high school coursework, and if you’ve challenged yourself with the classes you took. This is what I learned at a campus event about the admissions process last spring. They want to make sure you will succeed academically, and they put that ahead of extracurriculars.

BU provides a profile of the most recently admitted class. The link to the profile can be found at [Profile of Admitted Students » Undergraduate Admissions | Boston University](http://www.bu.edu/admissions/apply/profile/)

Also, there is a list of recommended curriculum which the most competitive applicants have completed during their high school career: [Freshman Applicants » Undergraduate Admissions | Boston University](Boston University Freshmen Applicant Information | Admissions)

Best of luck!
