Hey guys,
I'm a junior and I was thinking about getting into the 7 year program. I was looking at the list and figured out that my first choice is Boston University. Does anyone know any other better universities that's more competitive? and also, does any one know what are the requirements for this university? By requirements, i mean like the minimum SAT score, School GAP etc? o and also is SAT II required for this 7 year program?
Thanks in advance,
Tarun

Why are you looking for a program that's more competitive? BU is a great school, and their Accelerated Medical Program is already extremely competitive. They don't really have a minimum SAT or ACT score or a GPA published, but definitely try to get above a 32 or probably 1450+. They only accept ACT with Writing, and they require Subject Tests in at least Math II and Chemistry and recommend a foreign language.

At least 2200 for SATs. >= 750-800 for SATII Chem, Bio, Math IIC.
You need to be in top 5% of graduating class
ECs should be medically oriented.
Your HS curriculum needs to indicate that you have challenged yourself.

For LORs, remember to ask one Humanities teacher for a letter (a MUST!). One from Sci teacher and one from counselor.

Which schools are tougher than BU? Northwestern and Brown.

^and rice/baylor

Thnx for the info!

How do you guys find this info...is there like a site that gives you what r all the colleges that offer then 7 year program and what they require for the applicants to have by the end of their senior year?

Some of us have been on these threads for many years....have been watching scores for some years before my S applied. He got accepted in Fall 07. Now, I try to help out other budding 'physician-wanna-be's.

^ may i ask where your S got accepted?

UMDNJ with TCNJ 7 yr BS/MD program

Tarun,

Do check BU's website for their most recent requisites. They have changed them at least once between 2006 and 2007. They used to require an SATII in Spanish before. They did not require this for applicants last year.
So, they do update/change them year to year.

But pay close attention to the LOR requirement. My S had to change his applic at the very last moment from BS/MD to BS only because of not having LOR from Humanities. He got in at BU (BS) with 50% ride but he selected UMDNJ with 100% ride (4 yrs) with BS/MD

I just realized I had a typo in my last reply...:D anyways,

thnx for the info guys. I m hoping to get a 2200 or above on the SAT I'm gonna take soon and gotta boost up my gpa...it' slike 3.7 now out of a 4.0 scale unweighted. I don't know what r my chances of going to BU but atleast hopefully I'll get in there or some other good university that has the 7 year program.

O, one more questions,,,what SAT II subjects would you guys recommend taking for the 7 year program?

You MUST take Chem and Math II, but they recommend a foreign language as well.

to do well on chem for the sat II's do i hafta take ap chem? or is just regular chem gud enough?

Depends on you and your previous exposure to Chem. Me, I took Honors Chem sophomore year, and I'm taking AP Chem this year (senior year). I just took the Subject Test in November, and I didn't do as well as I wanted. I got a 660, but I guess I can deal with that with part of one semester of AP Chem.

Tarun,

It will help you greatly to take APchem before your SATII chem.
AP chem consolidates your Chem knowledge and will prep you well.

It's never a bad idea to be well prepared for a test.

o thnx for the info guys. o and if you don't do well on the SAT II subject test, can you retake it?

^Yeah, you can retake it. Just know that all your scores will show up on your score report.

o,,,if u dont do well on it,,can u make a choice of whether to send it to colleges or not? and is math 2 on the subject tests more preferable than the math 1 for colelges? or is it about the same?

No. When you send any Collegeboard test score to a college, they get the scores of all collegeboard tests you have taken but not canceled. Unfortunately, that's just how they do it. As far as I know, most colleges prefer Math 2. Even if they don't specify what subject tests to take, I'd still take Math 2 over Math 1. It just shows more mastery of the material.

o god that sux...but thnx for the info everyone. I decided to take the math level 2 in jan...hopefully i'll do on it. :]

I applied to the program this year and the 3 extra letters of rec almost got me. You must have 3 extra LORs especially for the accelerated med program.

And if you want to have any change of getting into ANY medical program, it doesn't matter how high your scores or GPA is, go out this summer and do medical research or clinical shadowing or both. Get experience in the real world. I did three summers of medical research and 1 summer of clinical shadowing
