Anyone applying/been to their High School Honors Program?

bumpppppp?

Yes, I sent in my app last Sunday and I'm going to hear back from them in about a week.

ohh, do you know how difficult it is to get in? i read on the website that they accept an average of 70 students, but then again, they don't state how many applicants they had.

im applying to the research thing. is that the same as this high school honors thing?

To tokyogurl: The deadline is May 15, so I'm assuming that is when they typically get 70 qualified students (and an additional 30 for the research thingy). If you had solid recs, keep high B's in honors or AP courses and got at least a 1250 on your SAT you should be OK. Also, if you submit your app sooner rather than later in this economy you should be fine. I'm sure they're interested in any student who is willing to put up $6k in this economy.

To tomjones: Yeah, the research students live on the same dorms as the kids taking 2 courses and participate in the same activities, etc.

bumppppppppppp

So let me get this straight, for the internship option. A student has to pay $6k for the opportunity to slave away in their labs under the direction of a professor for 6 weeks?

you could get financial aid if you need it
hmm..are there any other opportunities such as this, on the West Coast? I know of YESS, but how bout other research internships?
also, I haven't thought of a research topic yet. where did you guys get ideas?
Thanks!
Wow, this thing isn't that popular is it?

I don't know anything really about the internship, as I am applying to take 2 regular courses.

In most other internship programs, you would get paid in a form of a stipend. The concept of paying someone a lot of money so that you can work for them is just not right. Unless you are really unfortunate, financial aid is not an option for majority of people. If you are taking regular courses, there are plenty of options; Harvard, Brown, Tufts, Columbia, Standford, Princeton,... you name it.

Anyway, there's a few CA opportunities in the link below.

bumppppppp

So who IS applying to the internship?

@tomjones
I couldn't apply to their internship- I'm an international student. bummer :(

@alexc91
1250? whoa, I guess they aren't that selective after all

I got in!

@tokyogurl: The 1250 is for CR/Math, not all 3.

high five! I got my acceptance letter a few days back, I guess I'll see you there then (:

What kinds of courses are you going to take?

I'm still undecided, but I'm planning to take Introduction to Computer Science I and Introductory Macroeconomic Analysis.

you?

I was considering Macro but I'm just going to take AP Macro next year. I'm definitely taking Intro to Political Science, undecided about the other course.

Do you know of anyone else who's been accepted/applied?

I got rejected from RSI so I've been applying to a bunch of summer secondary programs in the Boston area (my parents live in Boston). I'm qualified but I don't know if they are offering 200-level courses in Math since I don't want to repeat stuff.
