Hey I just got assigned to Dinwiddie in Botetourt, and I was wondering if the dorm is as crap as people say it is.

Also, are the showers in Dinwiddie divided by curtains or partitions any sort, or are they large group showers of the worst kind (if you know what I mean). I'd like to know what to expect on this front, as I had not even thought of this until now.

People always give Botetourt a hard time, but the people who live there (and even I, who did not) always seem to like it. Nice courtyards, near the lake and other recreational activities, large air conditioned lounges…

I’m not positive Dinwiddie specifically, but I have never seen group showers at W&M. The main type that I have seen for hall bathrooms is a double partitioned individual shower (so you have like a mini dressing room).

Thanks a lot, man. Yeah, I get the feeling Botetourt just gets a bad rap. It WOULD be nice to have a sink in the room, but that’s not that important. I think I’ll like it. By the way, if I have a lot of friends in other dorms, how often can I go there? Like can I hang out at other dorms as much as I want?

I lived there and I didn’t like it. You might be near the lake and the Caf but that’s about it. Bring a can of roach spray, and find any doctor willing to write you a note for a window AC unit for your “allergies”. However, I lived there and I loved everybody else that lived there. You will form deep bonds over narrow, dimly-lit hallways and muggy bathrooms that will last your stay at W&M and beyond.

Showers in Botetourt are individual, not group. I believe this is the case in all dorms at W&M, but someone correct me if I’m wrong.

If you have friends in other dorms, you can pretty much hang out there however much they’re willing to have you there. Your keycard will get you into all dorms between 6A and midnight. Between midnight and 6A you only have keycard access to your own building, but your friends can let you in to theirs.

AC is a must dude.

just wanted to say to make sure you hang out during orientation with the people on your hall. if you already have friends in other dorms, that is cool too, but those friendships will still be there in a week or two. Don’t skip the hall bonding to hang out with the people you already know.

Here’s Residence Life’s info on Botetourt. It gives you everything from a virtual tour to individual room dimensions.
I have a student intern this summer who lived in Botetourt for 3 years (once as a frosh and twice as an RA) and she really enjoyed it and loved the people living there.

The freshmen hall experience is generally a very good one because of the people you live with and the connections you make on your hall.
