Is there any reason to take the SAT 2 Chem exam if your child is taking the AP Chemistry exam?

If the college to which your child is applying requires or recommends Subject Test scores, then yes. Even if the college does not require/recommend, a strong Subject Test score can be a small plus factor (as is the AP Chem score). Taking the May ST is rather easy, since the child has to study for AP anyway. The ST is just a quick 40-minute warm up. :)

Also, to add to bluebayou:
Taking AP Chem but not taking the SAT II Chem Test is kind of giving up an easy opportunity. My Chemistry teacher has told our class that taking 3 SAT II practice test after studying for the AP Exam is most likely a guaranteed 800. Why not kill two birds with one stone.
