Boulder vs. Denver?

So I'm thinking I'll either go to CU Boulder or UC Denver. Denver's less expensive, especially since I'd be able to live at home and commute there. I also love the city, and I've heard UCD's more diverse than CUB. On the other hand, CU Boulder has more of a reputation (it's a Public Ivy) and is more well-known. I also like its LGBT Certificate program, but that's not a deal-breaker. UCD seems reasonably gay-friendly anyway - there's some kind of GSA at Auraria Campus.

I'm not sure what I want to major in. I know I want to be a writer, so UCD's English Writing major appeals to me. I've been told not to major in English (literature) because it'll "suck the love of reading right out of you." So since CUB doesn't have a writing major, if I went there, I'd probably choose something else. And even if I majored in writing, I'd probably double-major. Psychology, Sociology, and Anthropology all appeal to me, but I'm not sure how "safe" those are in terms of career back-up plans.

Academically, is CU Boulder way better? Does either school have smaller class sizes? What can you tell me about the quality of each school's programs in the majors I listed? (English Writing, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology) And at UCD, which students go to Auraria Campus and which go to the downtown campus? Anything more you can tell me about UCD specifically, since it's hard to find information/opinions on it?

These are my top two schools as well. This is my impression in regards to answering your questions. I hope it helps:

Academically, DU is a little more challenging compared to CU, but they’re pretty much the same. CU class sizes will probably get smaller your junior and senior years as your major will get more specific. But considering the major size difference, DU will have smaller classes. However, for the majors you are interested in, DU seems to be the better match here because I believe the smaller the class size, the better the education. Plus, DU is known to be such a psychological and sociological based school.

Wow, really? I hadn’t heard about Denver being big on psychology and sociology. I’d mainly heard that it was strong in medicine and business. Thanks for the info!

Edit to add: I just noticed you used the initials “DU.” You’re not talking about the University of Denver, are you? Because I was talking about the University of Colorado Denver.

Oh wow my mistake! Yeah I wasn’t sure what you meant by UCD.
