I went on Bowdoin’s office of admissions facebook page to find out when they released results, and they seem to come out early February. The last couple of years were on the second, but I don’t know if that will be the case this year due to the increase in applications received.
I heard Feb 4 from someone who applied ED2. Secondhand info however and i find a Sunday an odd date.
It’s official: February 2, 2018 7:00PM (EST)
Good luck to everyone awaiting EDII decisions. Wow, what an increase in apps this year. If things remain consistent, the overall acceptance rate will come down to about 10-11%, and the ED acceptance rate will come down to ~19%. If they up their reliance on ED, they can potentially bring their acceptance rate down to under 10%. Knowing Bowdoin though, I don’t think they’ll do that.
I’m really happy that Bowdoin is getting more attention by prospective students. Definitely my favorite of the many east coast LACs.
D’s boyfriend was deferred; everyone expected him to get in. It’s very tough year for ED. For all who did not get the result they hoped for- just know that it’s a very hard year for ED at Bowdoin.
@4junior, was he hooked, especially a “slotted” recruited athlete, as otherwise the pool of admits is very small given only 250 are accepted between both ED classes?
If 60 are student-athletes, 70 are URM and First-Gen (with 25 Questbridge within that mix), and 20 are legacies, then that leaves only 100 spots - not certain if the numbers are accurate, but I think they are within range. That’s why Bowdoin always says that ED doesn’t help for non-hooked applicants - 100/1300 ED applicants = 8% non-hooked ED acceptance rate.
Hooked in a different way than athletic- complicated and i can’t share. Several applied ED 1 and 2 but only 1 accepted- URM. During our info session they said they would absolutely not admit more than 50% of the class in the ED rounds. So they are taking those who they know will have multi accepts in RD, the rest were deferred or denied.
Yes, we heard the same message last year; our DD was a tipped athelte that was Deferred and Denied - that said, all ended well. And unfortunately, a Defferal only means a relook during RD along with the rest of the applicants, so likely an 8% chance.
Does anyone think not having an interview would be a reason to reject me? Bowdoin’s interview scheduling process was so different from all my other schools and I just forgot! It’s my fault, but I’m worried it will majorly affect me. I know they’re big on interest, but I live in TX, so I haven’t had the chance to go all the way to Maine. I guess I did show slight interest by contacting admissions with a long letter explaining something on my application. Welp…we’ll see…
According to Bowdoin’s Common Data Set, an interview is “considered” (but not “important” or “very important”) and level of applicant’s interest is “not considered.”
Does anyone know when Bowdoin releases Regular Decision acceptances/waitlists/denials? We are getting into the middle of March, so just wondering if anyone has heard
@gingerbread1999 Their website says early April.
Last year was 3/17 I think.
Thanks! Just wish they would let us know soon. Not having an exact deadline makes it feel like the wait could stretch on into eternity, you know? Maybe that’s just me…
@gingerbread1999 Definitely not just you lol. I’m hoping it’s next week!
I emailed admissions and was told Monday at the latest for RD decisions.
@eertbarc Thanks for the update! Fingers crossed.
Ahhhhhhhh that’s stressful/exciting! I’m hoping for Friday!
I’m guessing Bowdoin will come out on Friday. Maybe we’ll be surprised and get them tomorrow! Ugh, wishful thinking
Wait, Monday the 19th? No kidding I am so surprised…have gotten used to anxiety with no time limit. Wow that’s exciting! Is Bowdoin anyone’s first choice for sure?
