I am an international student. I just want to ask, how long should the Bowdoin supplement essay be (500 words?) Am I right in thinking that the Common application essay should be around 500 words? Lastly, how important are these essays? I heard it is not wise to treat these essays as a resume and mention your ECs, leadership and stuff. Where should I mention these then?

John - most students attach a supplemental activities resume to their application. A search of the main cc site will provide examples.
My Son (admitted class of 2010) provided a supplemental essay that was less than 500 words -- "long enough to cover the subject, but short enough to keep it interesting." To be absolutely certain, email the admissions office (if the Bowdoin application does not spell it out). We found admissions to be pretty responsive to email questions. Best of luck to you!

how do you submit a supplemental activities resume- through Common Application online, by mail or what?

anyone clarify for me?

You might be able to do it on line as a supplement to the Common App but my child gave the resume to Guidance Counselor who mailed it in with his recommendation. S did submit an extra essay and mailed it in separately with cover letter.
