Next month I will be visiting Bowdoin, Dartmouth, Middlebury and Amherst. I really like everything I have researched and read about Bowdoin (school, students, faculty, food, dorms, social life). Bowdoin in size is just a couple of hundred students greater than my high school. I Would like anyone’s thoughts on Bowdoin compared to the other schools I will be visiting and any other comments you might have about Bowdoin. Thanks!

I applied and was accepted at both Bowdoin and Middlebury but enrolled at Bowdoin. I felt Bowdoin's student body was less clique-ish and more friendly than Midd, but its great you plan on visiting because, from my own experience, it did take a little getting used to Bowdoin's look after what I read in my own research. I liked Midd's campus better, but that's just because I appreciated the stone look of all the buildings and it came off as very pristine. Both schools are in great shape, but Bowdoin came off a more earthy (but, it's Maine). The food was better at Bowdoin, but variety was better at Midd. As far as housing goes, Bowdoin won hands down. Midd was very inconsistent in dorm quality (some looked new, some looked like they needed some TLC) and they were spread out throughout the campus (making location an issue). All of the dorms I saw were small. Bowdoin housing is centrally located on campus and have been recently renovated so they're in great shape. The dorm size was great (for a dorm), with two bedrooms connected with a common room that included couches, desks, etc. My high school was actually larger than Bowdoin's, but smaller than Midd so I was able to appreciate the slightly busier pace at Midd.

Thanks, govman...this comparison helps alot!

One big comparison between Dartmouth and Bowdoin might be the presence of greek life.

Dartmouth has what, more than 60% greek? And Bowdoin has no fraternities, instead we have College Houses. I found the house system very inclusive and welcoming.

Thanks, oliver.....I've heard the houses at Bowdoin were great for establishing friendships.
