@barvoets, my dyslexia dramatically lowers my standardized test scores compared to my intellectual and academic capabilities. For example, I am in the International Baccalaureate Diploma program in a very competitive school achieve a weighted GPA of 4.3. Additionally, I am predicted to obtain 40 points out of a possible 45 on the IB, which is in the top 1% of all candidates world wide. Yet, my highest SAT compound score is 1620.

Oh okay, thanks for informing me! To be honest, I think it’s awesome that Bowdoin is one of the schools that places less emphasis on test scores. They’re a dumb thing in the first place

^You would not be saying that if you did well on them. On that note, I hope SATs and ACTs are at least a factor in admissions. My scores are, simply put it, a strength of mine. That being said, I do agree that SATs and ACTs should not be the be all, end all for college applications.

Submitted my application over a month ago. Feel great about the application. Two years ago, a couple of students in our IB program got accepted through QuestBridge. The schools seems to be so nice.

@GiveMeReason, Are you also in the IB program? I am! You don’t have to answer but I was wondering how many points you are predicted? And even better, how many points were the people in your IB program that were accepted to Bowdoin predicted? I’m predicted 40.

@GiveMeReason, well, actually my ACT score is above Bowdoin’s median 75% range which I consider “well.” The reason I think they’re dumb is because for a while I kept getting the same score and I worked soo hard to finally bring it to where it is now. I realized, then, that test scores don’t always indicate how smart you are.

Do you think they will look at the SAT score on the CommonApp (if we didn’t choose to submit an official score report)?

Just when you thought a 16.1% acceptance rate was bad, the actual RD acceptance rate for class of '16 was 13.8%

classic01, I don’t know the answer to your question but I think the fact that the school is test-optional is a good indication that, while they may glance at that, they probably will not pay much attention. :)

IBinLux…no point in dwelling on it now! Good luck to all of you guys. :)

Thank you, suitcases. :)

Do you guys know how much an interview matters? I missed the deadline :(

I got this from the Bowdoin website:
"A personal interview is strongly encouraged, but is not required for admission. The interview will give you a chance to talk informally about your academic interests, major activities, and future goals. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about Bowdoin.

A candidate’s chances for admission are not diminished because of the lack of an interview, but the interviewer’s impressions of a candidate’s potential can often be helpful to the Admissions Committee."

yeah they all say that but…honestly does it not hurt?

I would say that an interview is simply another feather in your cap (given that it goes well). My interviewer asked me questions about my school, what I like to do outside of school, what brings me to Bowdoin, what new things I would bring to the community if I were accepted etc. Probably 80% of what we talked about was already portrayed in my application. I think not having an interview would only hurt if it comes down to your application versus a very similar one that did have a very successful interview. I hope this helps.

okay, thank you :)

Has anyone got an email that their application is complete? I know that there is no application status website, but I haven’t gotten any confirmation.

I haven’t received one yet.

I got a confirmation email today.

There is an application portal site now, I received the link a few days ago.

@IBinLUX. I do not know what they got on their “actual” IB diploma, but they were strong students. I haven’t received a predicted score because we haven’t done enough IAs and practice tests yet. If it means anything, I got 5s on all six AP exams I have taken.

How much does location (like Midwest vs California) play into admissions? Not many people from Kentucky attend Bowdoin, so I’m wondering if it is an advantage or disadvantage for my application?
