According to the Princeton Review, under Freshman Admission Factors, Geographical Residence is “considered”. Therefore, I would say that being from Kentucky is an advantage because as you said, not many people from Kentucky attend Bowdoin.

When does Bowdoin generally release decisions?

Last year RD decisions were mailed Friday the 23rd of March. The letters arrived a couple days latter. International students received an email on the 23rd. Bowdoin is targeting to get them out around that date this year.

Are decisions emailed/available online, or are they only mailed?

Is anyone else who applied RD really wishing they’d applied ED or ED2? I know I am…

I think they are only emailed to internationals, but I’m not sure. I also wish I applied ED2…

Is it just me or did I read somewhere that they were notifying “Early April?” If they sent them out around March 23rd again that would be great!

Bowdoin also does “early writes” for some applicants – those should start coming relatively early in March. Also, IIRC, they don’t all get sent on the same day.

@torasee, Is there any rhyme or reason for who gets an “early write”?

Uh oh, it’s early march! Excited and nervous for decisions.

Damn, I really want to get in… I loved my essay that I wrote for Bowdoin. Think they put a lot of weight on writing supplements?

According to how things went with ED, Bowdoin has implemented a new system. They now send emails. The only people who receive snail mail are admitted students. As for the timing for decisions, when my son applied it was late March, I believe. Make sure you watch the Bowdoin Facebook page as they keep things pretty current there. (If you’re really curious about the past years and when they sent the letters out, search the RD 20XX thread. You will find dates there.). Good luck!

@barvoets, I’ve never detected any rhyme or reason for the early writes – sometimes they are URMs, sometimes they are (arguably) extra strong applicants, sometimes they are athletes . .

Last year, early writes started going out on March 9 and arriving at students homes on about March 12. Early writes were sent out last year via priority mail – it is unclear whether e-mail will be used for “early writes” this year – I would think not but am not certain . .

I think generally Early Writes, even for other schools who have used the Banner System for a while, are sent out via snail mail.

are letters out?? one of my friends got her acceptance letters, but idk where to find mine? i’m freaking out

Yes – a bunch of early write acceptances were received today . .

I just got an early write by email! Such a great day for me! Two early writes in one day!

do you think it is possible that there are still early writes to be received and sent out?

Possibly – they may be sent out in waves as the admissions staff makes its way through the applications.
