Bowdoin Class of 2018 Waitlist

Hey everyone, since there wasn’t a page for this year’s wait-list, I decided to make one. So, who here is wait-listed at Bowdoin?
Anyone who has any extra information about the wait-list for this year, post stats, etc. or any extra stuff that you may want to post about Bowdoin’s wait-list over the past years. Fingers crossed for everyone!

Thanks for the thread. Was wondering the same thing. Are WL decisions out yet?

No problem! All I know that they can let students know from now until the end of July…

Wait list offers usually start about now (May 6) in years when Bowdoin makes WL offers. But WL offers are made in waves, meaning the first batch might get offers on May 9 (just to pick a random date) and then another batch will receive offers a few days later until the class is filled out. IIRC, the process typically spins out over a few weeks until the class is full. In years past, Bowdoin has aimed to add 25-30 new class members from the WL but whether it can do so all depends on the yield rate on the regular acceptances. There have been aberrational years when the yield rate has exceeded expectations and Bowdoin has not gone to the WL at all. Obviously projecting yield rate is not an exact science, which is why the WL is generally used to round at a class at Bowdoin . . .

I’m not sure if this is a definite indicator that they will not be pulling from the waitlist but just some helpful information for you guys. It was posted 2 hours ago.

http://community.bowdoin.edu/news/2014/05/the-record-setting-class-of-2018/

That’s a very strong indicator that Bowdoin will likely not reach the wait list or, it it reaches it, not dig deep into it. [The target for class size for the class of 2018 is 495](14.8% acceptance rate for Class of 2018; up 0.3 percentage points — The Bowdoin Orient) so the class is already way too big (27 extras). Bowdoin will lose some of the 522 who have paid their security deposits as other schools dip into their wait list but it would need to lose at least 27 before it digs into its own wait list. That might eventually happen but it won’t happen right away and will probably only involve small numbers.

:(

So my counselor forwarded me this email reply from an adcom:

"As I’ve expressed to him via email, we do not need any additional material. If there are significant updates since he submitted his application, he is free to email those to me. We do not need new test scores, recommendations, or writing samples.

With the May 1st deadline nearing, we’ll need to tally all our of enrollments to see if we will need to use the waitlist. Early reports show that this might be a year when we do very little admitting from the waitlist."

Also, the adcom replied to me directly, saying

“Once the May 1st deadline has passed, we’ll evaluate our matriculated students to see if we have any gaps to fill (gender, geography, etc.)”

So even if gaps become available, it’ll be to fill their demographics. As an Asian American male living in California I’m kind of bummed.

Will Bowdoin contact all wait list applicants in some way when they officially close the wait list for class of 2018?

So I got an email from them yesterday about how it’s unlikely that they will take from the waitlist because they are currently at capacity. But I guess you never know with other schools’ waitlists, so they have an extended summer waitlist option now. Who’s staying on that?

Hi all, so it’s nearing the end of June. Any movement or news of student movement off the wait list recently (from May 1 to now)?

No one on the class of 2018 page has changed their mind
