CONGRATS
Accepted!
Waitlisted…was expecting rejection. Did not visit, no interview, no demonstrated interest…
Rejected ?
DD was waitlisted. Stats: 3.96 UW GPA / 35 ACT / 15 honors/adv/AP courses / all-state musician / varsity athlete / tons of ECs w/ leadership / midwest applicant / visited multiple times with interviews… it’s tough out there, folks! Congrats to all that were accepted. I’m more disappointed that she is… I was looking forward to fall visits to Coastal Maine.
D accepted. Faculty scholar. 1520 SAT. 5.0 W GPA. All state music. NHD national finalist. Girl Scout highest rank. Other varsity EC.
Congrats to all accepted and don’t despair if you didn’t get in. things do workout for others. I applied to 24 schools and my lowest rank one was the only one that gave me enough aid to make it affordable. 30 years later, it all worked out.
INTERVIEWS MATTER!
Congrats…
“Interviews Matter”
Although D18 didn’t have an Interview with Bowdoin your lips to Gods ears as she had several interviews where we hope it does indeed matter…
Happy for All accepted into Bowdoin
Enjoy
Little sis didn’t get in, congrats to all that got accepted. We already have good options in Grinnell and Macalester but we were really hopeful for Bowdoin. Fingers and toes crossed for Dartmouth now.
Got rejected and am wondering if anyone noticed a similar trend at their school…
Bowdoin was my top school (1560 SAT, 4.53 GPA, Only B+ all of high school was in AP physics, interviewed, visited campus, emailed admissions rep for my region asking questions, 3 sport athlete, lacrosse captain, involved with community service). I know Bowdoin’s a really competitive school with a lot of qualified applicants but I was still a little surprised to be rejected.
I was looking on Naviance after and found that for my high school everyone with SAT scores over 1550 or ACT over 35 were rejected. Everyone 1500-1550 was waitlisted. About 75% of applicants with scores in the 1400’s were accepted from my school (as opposed to 0% of applicants with higher scores and grades) Does Bowdoin just cut students off for being over what they expect? Seems a little annoying because I showed interest and seem to be a pretty well rounded applicant.
I’m not trying to complain, I am just curious if this trend is true at other high schools and if so why Bowdoin is straight up rejected seemingly qualified applicants?
Sounds like they might be trying to increase their yield so they can have a lower acceptance rate
I think Bowdoin is one of the most holistic schools out there, so they definitely emphasis life experiences, accomplishments, and fit over stats. I have no doubt that you were a qualified applicant, given your stats and extracurricular activities, but you must remember that they only accepted ~900 students from an application pool of 10,000 students. So, not every qualified applicant gets in, but I am sure you have a great shot at other schools given your application rigor. As cliche as it sounds, the saying that colleges cannot accept every qualified applicant rings true for Bowdoin, especially so over other typical colleges, due to its smaller-than-your-average-college class admit size.
I was also not admitted, so I wish us both luck and hope more options open in the future.
@lh2000 @Offerings
The acceptance letter pretty much explains what they are looking for.
Alexandra, we’re so proud to offer you admission into the Bowdoin College Class of 2023. You were chosen, individually, from thousands of applicants—not only because we know you can do the work, but because you’re a person of character: someone who believes in something bigger than yourself. We trust that your kindness and curiosity will shape our community. We believe that your perspective is crucial to our conversations. We know that your hard work, combined with a Bowdoin education, can quite literally change the world.
Yeah. They take some high stat kids too. There are a bunch just on this board with high stats and an acceptance. All of the LACs have just very holistic admissions and take so few kids. Needs to be a fit in the school’s eyes.
I got waitlisted at Colby so, they missed out!
Bowdoin likely attracts a specific set of applicants because of its uniqueness. I’m guessing they could easily have selected 2 to 3 times the number of applicants and still had a phenomenally similar holistic group of peeps.
Limited Slots = Luck of the Draw
Is anyone here definitely going to Bowdoin? We are planning to go to admitted student days but, the way s19 is acting today, I think he already knows this is the school for him.
rejected but got into my top choice so it’s all good
Highly likely. We aren’t going to admittted student thing as it’s in the middle of his senior musical but it was his favorite LAC- loved it last summer. Will hear the other financial offers if he gets in elsewhere though.
@homerdog So happy Bowdoin is a yes for you guys! We have been on similar college pages for months. S19 was accepted through ED2 and we are definitely headed to Bowdoin in mid-April. Feel free to pm me if you’d like to meet up. Congratulations!
