Essays: I thought they were creative and well written, I used an extended metaphor through both my common app and supplemental essays that I thought worked well.
Teacher Recommendations:
I got 3 letters of rec and they were all by teachers I loved! I did well in their classes and they liked me as well, I think they all wrote stellar recs!
Counselor Rec- we have 2 counselors at our school of less than 100 kids per grade level so the counselors all get to know the students well, I would say 7/10
Interview: I thought it went really well! I had a student interview me and conversation went really easily.
State: NY
School type: Rural public
Ethnicity: white
Hooks: First gen
Strengths: I think the essays and letters of rec were my strongest assets in my application
Weaknesses: I didn’t think my test scores were very good but then again Bowdoin is test optional.
I was pretty confident I wouldn’t be rejected, at the least I thought I would be deferred. Honestly, when there are so many qualified candidates I think a lot of it comes down to luck!
Other colleges- I didn’t apply to any other schools this year(gap year) but if I didn’t get in I was going to apply to Tufts, Amherst, Vassar, University of Rochester, Duke, and Boston University. Last year I was waitlisted at Columbia, waitlisted are Washington and Lee, accepted at St. Lawrence, denied at Dartmouth and Johns Hopkins
Accepted!
