Bowdoin College- potential applicant

I am very interested in Bowdoin College, my father graduated from there and I absolutely love the school. I am looking for a strong liberal arts education, but like any student wonder my chances. I know grades and scores don’t define a person, I have always disliked being ranked and judged for academic performance when I really just enjoy learning. I hope to visit Bowdoin this summer or in the fall, this is one of my dream schools. I am still unsure about future areas of studies but I love art, environmental research, conservation and I hope to have a non profit one day that educates and gives back to underprivileged children. Any advice or Bowdoin student’s opinions?

If anyone has advice on admission or comments about Bowdoin I would greatly appreciate it!

Unless you raise your ACT take advantage of their test-optional policy. Beyond that you seem fine, consider applying ED if it is your first choice and focus on writing great essays.

Bowdoin: Reach (it’s reachable)

Thank you, I am considering it!

Besides your ACT score, you’ll be a great candidate for Bowdoin. I would take advantage of their test-optional policy, unless you raise your ACT score by 6 points or more.

Good luck! Work hard on your essays and apply early decision. :)

You have a great shot. With a +/- 15% acceptance rate, Bowdoin is a reach for everyone… Just get down to business with the essays and definately try to visit…if you can hold off until Fall I would suggest it. We visited in August and the campus was pretty dead (although Freeport and Portland were hopping!) So many schools claim to take a holistic approach to admissions, but I really do believe it with Bowdoin. It’s a small class…and I think they strive for a good mix of kids.
