Hey all,
So I was accepted to both colleges. I already committed to Bowdoin, but really want to get rid of the feeling of ambivalence over my choice. I have always looked towards Georgetown as my dream school throughout high school because I never knew I could get an offer that could top it.
So at Bowdoin College, I have gotten a full ride. On top of it, they are providing nearly $9000 in scholarships through the Chamberlin Scholars Program and Geoffrey Canada Program (free laptop too). They are one of the best schools for Government majors along with a extremely strong pre-law.
Georgetown also was a full ride and a 1789 Scholars program which provides $1700. I decided on Bowdoin because from what I researched Bowdoin, in general, had a stronger government program, and Georgetown is really great for International Relations which I do not want to do at all.
Let me save some time here for you. In the most general terms of course.
-From the Bowdoin parent or student yes. You made the absolute right decision.
-From the Georgetown parent or student. “Let me tell you about this before you decide”
-From the LAC family. “You’ll enjoy much smaller classes and a close relationship with your community and professors.”
-From the mid size, elite research uni parent or student. “The access to DC as a history major and alumni network is not to be overlooked. Make sure are semi target for ib and consulting in case you change your mind.”
In the end they are both so wonderful it is a personal choice. There’s not a right answer. Your instincts should be the most important thing after your thorough research. It is very common to feel buyers remorse. And second guess yourself.
Maybe lurk the accepted students Facebook and reddit pages. Follow and read their twitter feed and admission’s feeds going back a year or two. Look up the clubs and activities. See what feels right for you.
