Can anyone (preferably a current student) tell me what the strengths and weaknesses of Bowdoin are? I know it’s a top LAC, but what else? Does the lack of diversity hurt the student body, and is it really a bunch of NE jocks? I’ve heard both raves and criticisms; I need a more unbiased picture.

I know this is a month late. But whatever. This is coming from a rising sophomore.

Academically, I could not be happier. I've loved all of my professors except for one. I have a really nice group of friends. The freshmen dorms are fantastic as is the food. I like Brunswick. But I know some city kids hate it.

There are a lot of jocks here. There are a lot of people who got in because of sports. That's true at all schools, though. And it's just particularly obvious at small ones. It doesn't really bother me.

The student body is growing more diverse with every incoming class. "The lack" of it doesn't bother me at all. However, it may very well bother the diverse students. So that's something to consider.

I had a great year at Bowdoin, but I think most white, upper-middle class kids from New England do. It is interesting to note that nearly all of the people that I know are transferring are either racially or economically or geographically diverse.

hey ksolow, good to see you've a great time at bowdoin. how was the winter for you, probally not as brutal as the one we had in Rochester ;)!
