Hey all! I noticed Amherst had a thread up about hopefuls, so I thought I would start a Bowdoin thread to get to know everyone.

I’m Sara, and I’m applying regular decision for Bowdoin’s 2015 class. Most people don’t know about Bowdoin where I’m from. I’m excited for the whole application process. I love Bowdoin’s supplemental essay. Bowdoin is my favorite school because of the academic quality and student body. I’m a bit nervous, since the yield was so high this year. Do you think they will accept less students this year?

Possibly–I read that they accepted more than what they were supposed too so they may accept exactly or a little below next year. Nonetheless, GL!

Same here! It seems like an awesome school and it has become very popular in the last several years! That means they are getting alot more money but a lower admit rate haha
U guys sending in your SAT scores?

Yes, I’m sending my SATs. I don’t think they’ll hurt me, but I am not sure if they help either. I read somewhere if you have a 2100+ you should send them in. ?

I absolutely love the school! But as of late, my SAT scores are definitely no where near where I would want them to be prior to sending them in. Though I’m retaking them again in a week, I haven’t opened a study book since May… So we’ll see how this goes.
Are you doing ED or regular decision? I really want to do ED, but part of me fears the binding contract. My father also doesn’t want me to do ED because he worries that it will compete with our financial aid needs- would I be at a disadvantage if I applied for ED & needed financial aid?

I would love to apply ED, since it is my TOP school. However, my mother is also concerned about financial aid. My father believes that I should not do ED since 1. I have no idea where I’ll be accepted and 2. I might not want to go to Bowdoin then. Bowdoin has been my top school since my sophomore year. I really hope to be accepted. I had my interview and it was great! I actually enjoyed it. We talked, and it was more of a conversation than anything. It was nearly an hour and forty five minutes! The length surprised me.

Bowdoin is SAT optional, cgv134. If your scores are not good, don’t send them!

For Sara and others who hesitate to apply ED because of financial aid concerns . . .

The Bowdoin ED process requires applicants to sign and return the Common Application Early Decision agreement, which includes this sentence:

“Should a student who applies for financial aid not be offered an award that makes attendance possible, the student may decline the offer of admission and be released from the Early Decision commitment.”

This may help alleviate the financial aid concerns about applying ED,

Yeah bowdoin! I think I finally decided on doing ED (I loved Williams as well). I only got a chance to visit in the summer so would anyone like to share their impressions?

Applying RD! Really excited but nervous; Bowdoin is really one of my top choices. I’m submitting the ACT, and I’m happy with my CommonApp essay, but I’m still working on my supplement.

I’m glad elbeeen! I applied to Bowdoin on Friday. I worked really hard on my supplement, and I think it has a lot of “heart.” I was very honest and the subject was very dear to me. I hope everything works out for Bowdoin - it’s definitely one of my top choices!

do you know if they send you a confirmation letter (like the interview) or email or something to say they got your ACT scores? cause i can’t find out if mine went through!
