Bowdoin or Middlebury

Just got off the waitlist at Middlebury. But I feel very strongly with Bowdoin.

Which will provide me the better opportunities in science or economics, or job prospects? Which is more prestigious (although I won't base my decision off of that since I feel they're really similar in that regard)?

Which has the stronger academics?

Why Middlebury over Bowdoin?

What are Middlebury peer schools in the Universities category?

According to the Princeton Review’s most recent “Rankings,” which are based entirely on student surveys:

Students from both colleges have a high opinion of their schools–for good reasons, it appears. You can’t go wrong with either, though Middkids seem to enjoy greater success on Wall Street. They are similar in prestige, though Midd has an edge–it is much more popular and desirable among young college applicants–both in my experience and according to this Revealed Preference study

[SSRN-A Revealed Preference Ranking of U.S. Colleges and Universities by Christopher Avery, Mark Glickman, Caroline Hoxby, Andrew Metrick](http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=601105)

It appears you would have an enjoyable academic experience at both schools.

Middlebury’s peers among the universities are the non HYPS schools. It’s closest match would be Dartmouth.

It’s a complete toss-up for the sciences, unless you want to do something that one of them specializes in (e.g. marine science at Bowdoin).

If you’ve already settled on Bowdoin, I see no reason to switch. You seem like you prefer it anyway.

dang both are about the same, I’d give a paper thin edge to Middlebury academically but other than that, they’re about the same. Personally, I’d pick Middlebury over Bowdoin but Bowdoin is a fantastic school.

So close, I’d go for the food!

Middlebury is slightly bigger and has the strength in international studies, languages and economics (among other things----i.e. environmental science). But Bowdoin is a little closer to a bigger city and the ocean. Almost too close to call unless a potential major sways you one way or the other.

You can’t lose either way!

to be fair, that revealed preference report is five years old now. That’s a lifetime in college preference standards. It’s likely that both schools have moved up (become more preferred) in that time, with Middlebury, again, having a slight edge. They’re basically the same school. Can’t go wrong.

Also, take a look at those PR rankings. If I did my quick math correctly, Midd averages 8.5 and Bowdoin averages 9.6. Those have to be two of the best rankings in the nation. I mean, I doubt any school with a similar number of rankings averages lower than 5. They’re both great schools!

They are pretty much exactly the same level, which one do you like more!
