I recently visited Bowdoin because I’m seriously considering it for early decision. It seemed to have everything I want in a school – great facilities, strong outdoors club, good environmental science program, small size, pretty campus, etc. But I couldn’t get a real feel for what social life at Bowdoin was like. It felt like nightlife was pretty divided between sports teams/clubs (i.e. there was a rugby party, a newspaper party, an ultimate frisbee party) which seemed to go against what I had heard about Bowdoin being a very open community.

So I guess I’m just curious what social life is like at Bowdoin. Obviously in college you have a group of close friends and I understand that you would hang out with them more, but I couldn’t tell if Bowdoin social life was as divided as it seemed (as in parties aren’t actually as open as people say they are). I’m an outdoorsy person who enjoys partying but I really want the school I go to to have an open feel to it. So what is the social scene at Bowdoin? Is there a lot going on on any given weekend? And is the student body cliquey?
