Bowdoin testing policy

Since test score submission is optional, what is the "catch?" Obviously top students are admitted, but, let's say that I didn't submit my ACT score.....it's still very difficult to get in......can someone elaborate on what I'm trying to ask? Is someone at a disadvantage if he/she didn't submit test scores?

I'm thinking about applying RD and my test scores aren't so hot. Even if I was accepted it's like 17/18 hour drive so I don't know if I would go there anyway......advice? Plus I think it costs $60.

You want to submit your best score. If you feel that both your ACT and SAT scores are above average and well into the University’s standards, then send both. There is no catch; some students did not take both tests, some did much better on one than the other. Send your best scores(s).

I took the ACT twice and both of my scores sucked.

Bowdoin is test optional but recommends submitting test scores. It also tells you that only 15% of applicants provided no test scores. It is cryptic but you should assume that those submitting good test scores and who have a like academic record as you will have an advantage. However, you can apply without scores and if scores are really bad don’t send them.
