Although this may be bias on this board, which college is better? (Your opinion)

I'm trying to make the same decision, phanitdasack, though I still might opt for another school. But between Bowdoin and Carleton, I would pick Carleton (probably shouldn't be saying this on the Bowdoin forum, but... whoops). They are nearly equal academically, but when I visited them, Carleton seemed to have a much less preppy atmosphere. But I wouldn't say that one is "better" than the other; they just have different personalities.

But Bowdoin has the Northeast, great dorms, and great food. Bowdoin for it's location and quality of life, Carleton for the atmosphere, people, and a sense of tradition. Oy ve. I need to visit.

It's funny, but my daughter really learned about Bowdoin and Carleton at a joint presentation by Bowdoin/Carleton/Pomona/Swarthmore, and judging by the threads on those forums, there's a lot of common applicants. Very much peer institutions, but different feel to each campus.

They are both really awesome schools. You'd probably be happy at either one. I'd recommend visiting both and then, if you still can't decide, going to the school that gives you the most money.

I'm also making this decision, although there are some other schools complicating things... Ahh this is almost more stressful than waiting to hear back from colleges! (almost)
I've visited both schools and there is definitely a difference in the personality of the student population. I felt like Bowdoin was more preppy and outdoorsy, while Carleton was more quirky and laidback. Definitely visit.

what if i'm quirky and outdoorsy? this is almost as stressful as finding out! almost though ;). the VISIT!

I think that there are plenty of quirky people at Bowdoin...me for instance. There are preppy people everywhere, and Bowdoin has such an awesome Outing Club.

"Quirky and outdoorsy" would probably describe a large percentage of Carleton's student body. In addition to the 900 (I think) acre arb, there's also CANOE House, which organizes regular outings.
