First of all I am NOT the college expert but anyways given your options if you would pay the exact same at AU for three years I would take AU. Firstly you have you whole life to work so the more years in college the better. You might also learn more with added years except if you are considerably older.

There is a big gap in rankings.50 vs 85 but I feel AU is stronger in your areas of preference and the DC area gives you added benefits. Granted you will be competing with the georgetown,GW and Howard kids but I feel there would enough to go round. If not it would be easier to get an internship during the year than to get one in the summer because all the kids not in DC might want to get one in the summer.THEN it would be crazy!

Do you plan to go onto grad school?if you do and already have a high GPA then you may sway Syracuse but I feel that being there for three semester wont give you enough time to show concrete involvement for grad schools. It might also not be enough to make important connections for a job if you fail to enter grad school. However I have heard that the alumni networking at SU is superb so that might solve the problem.

Personally I feel Poli Sci/International Relations especially Int Relations are what AU is known for and the DC area gives you amazing speakers. But I was just contemplating this issue as well although I had turned down GW before I realised my interests. What is making the decision defficult? If its just the three extra semesters I say go AU

Glad to hear that you have made your decision - and I think that it is the best one.

If you get the chance, be sure to watch Gettysburgh - one of the main characters is Joshua Lawrence Chamberline, one of Bowdoin's first presidents. There are bibliographies about him as well. Bowdoin may not be as diverse as it could, perhaps, but there is a good deal of honor in its past as well as its present. Best wishes for a wonderful 4 years!

i know its rlly tough for me to decide..
on wat basis cud a degree in IR from Syracuse and American University differ??

one thing abt syracuse is their maxwell school is rlly good. and if i graduate early as well, i'll have more time for internships and co-ops. plus in 3 semesters at syracuse, i might be able to do a few internships or study abroad.

About AU, its in DC so its easy to make political connections so that after graduating it'll be easy to find job.

I just dunno which to choose??

umm whats your GPA right now?I was also under the impression that after you graduate it would be harder because most of the internships and demonstrations should have been during your college years but as I say Im not an expert and Im not sure.have you already had any internships? Also Im not sure of the differences its just that Syracuse is more public policy of IR and known for Newhouse et all while Pol Sci/Int relations are THE premier courses in AU.I think yyou should call Syracuse and find out how realistic internships, jobs and study abroad would be given your current positions to make a more informed decision

i did call Syracuse but the person that i was to inquire wasn't availabe..i even emailed them but havn't heard frm them yet... they need my transfer decision within a few days.. and i dun hav much time.
My GPA is 3.2 I am in my 2nd semester right now.. so due to the fact that lots of credits got transfered, i'll graduate frm syracuse with 3 semesters thats wat is pullin me to go there..
i know at AU, IR is the premium course but syracuse is top school as well.. im sure there can r notable connections for internships in syracuse..

im so confused.. u must know that by now..hehe

uhm definitely keep trying to get through on the phone.I emailed them when I was still having problems and even today when Im suposed to have replied if I was coming I still have not gotten a response.I have emailed about me declining though. If you do not get good assurance that there will be ample opportunities at SU for graduating early then go to AU because you will also have the chance to boost your GPA.

You are right though Syracuse is a very good school so do all your research but keep in mind that Syracuse being better overall might not mean it is better in your courses of interest.

Write out your pros and cons and give a weight to each factor that you would like.Remember to include your future plans and where will give you a headstart an extra three semesters at the same price is not a bad tradeoff for a better headstart. If Syracuse is able to give a good start then go there you'll save time. You could try flipping a coin and seing if you respond better to any decision.

It seems to me like its purely a matter of time taken. If it took the same amount of time where would you go?This should be the right decision because the extra sacrifice for a better GPA and possibly more internships is not a bad idea except if you can use free time at Syracuse getting internships. Trust me you need to live life and not rush it.I was dead set on going to law school but now Im just going to enjoy my undergrad and Im also going to work to make sure I have exhausted all my opportunities. You only get to be a college student once.make the most of it
