Where is the closest bowling place around UCLA?

I looked on yelp and and the closest it said was edge of Santa Monica. I am planning an event and I don't think it'd be too nice for drivers to drive more than 20 minutes.

20 years ago they had bowling ON CAMPUS at Ackerman. It was loads of fun.

But to answer your question, i’d venture that the Mar Vista Bowl on Venice Blvd (at Grandview, I think) is a tad closer than the one in Santa Monica on Pico at 4th St.

The most fun one is the Lucky Strike on Highland & Hollywood Blvd. by the Kodak Theatre. I was there last night for a private party and bowled next to Tom Cruise and his wife.

mar vista is the place to go. santa monica amf is overpriced and further way. mar vista is as cheap as the hood and never that crowded, nicely kept too.

How much does it cost per person at Mar Vista? ($5/game/person ?)

As long as things aren’t too run down, not too expensive, and not too far, I’m fine with that.

I looked up Pinz Bowling Center and it looks pretty awesome, but it’s like probably way too expensive.

THEY HAD A BOWLING ALLEY IN ACKERMAN 20 YEARS AGO!?

how could that have not stayed!? Everyone likes bowling!

Bowling’s only recently made a decent come-back. The Ackerman bowling alley fell by the wayside with the ping pong tables, the barbershop, and one of the best cafeterias on the Westside. Made way for the Panda Express and other fast food because they leased it out. Man, I still remember the absolutely best salad bar ever, and once a week this cold Hungarian cherry soup. You guys were robbed!

not sure what hungarian cherry soup is, but…
i’m miffed about the bowling alley/ping pong tables/good food. seriously. rupandabarros, and the cooperage, and that arcade thing… not cutting it.
i do love the jamba juice, however.
<— total addict

where exactly was the bowling alley, btw?

we were robbed… i have to ackerman union is a joke compare to some of the student unions i’ve been to at other universities.

I think it was on the then A level (the bowling alley, that is). The remodel of Ackerman, no offense, was criminal. I’m thinking now it may have been more like 12 to 15 years ago, not 20 (boy am I getting old!). At least they kept the Baskin Robbins at Kerckhoff, as pitiful as it now is.

Yeah, cherry soup – you should try it sometime. I didn’t even know it was Hungarian until a friend of mine from high school who also went there (and escaped from Hungary) told me what it was. Killer soup.

At least as a lifetime alumni member, I get a discount on the Bear Wear!

discount makes it normally priced
