No status reports. All you will get is a letter in February or March (I forget when it came exactly) giving you the result.

thanks fallenchemist!! too bad i cant attach jpeg file on pm here, you could see it LOL

Parent56 - Since they all had to be in already, do you mind sharing what yours was?

I’d definitely be interested to know. Since it doesn’t matter at this point, my project was using a graphic design program to create a sort of graphic magazine with vignettes integrated into it. The title was the “Outside the Box Project” and it focused on stories of ways my life has been outside the norm, with titles on each spread like “Outside Border,” “Outside their Comfort Zones,” “Outside My Imagination.” I printed it out professionally, and I’m really proud of it.

Anyone else willing to share, now that stealing ideas isn’t an issue?

What are y’all talking about?

Youdon’tsay - The Dean’s Honor Scholarship is a full tuition award that is a competition, and therefore students apply for it. While it technically has no official minimum statistics to qualify, it is awarded to student’s with the highest academic credentials. They recommend SAT’s of 2250 or greater (ACT 34 or better) and top 5% of high school class. Beyond high school accomplishments, however, there is also a project whereby Tulane simply draws a box of about 3"x3" on a piece of paper and tells the student to do something with it. No real instructions beyond that. There have usually been about 1,000 - 1,5000 applicants in the recent past, as nearly as I can tell, and there were 100 winners until last year, when the number was reduced to 75. I am guessing that is due to the economic crisis taking a toll on available funds. I do not know how many there will be this year. As you can imagine, there are a fair number of students with very high grades, test scores, and strong EC’s in that group of applicants, so the box project is how they make the difficult decision of picking from among that elite pool.

Hope that clears it up for you.

Thanks, that does. You are always so helpful.

Last year there was no notification if you did not get the scholarship. We called and got the sad result.

Lolly - wow, ok. I just never figured there wouldn’t be any word at all if you didn’t get it. Now that you say it I remember hearing that once before, but I probably didn’t think it was right and forgot. I guess maybe there are just too many. Still…
