Boys vs Girls

Continually I see info on College Confidential which claims that boys are given preference in admissions. However, there are many schools where boys represent 50-52% or so of the school's admittances. Is there anything hidden in admission numbers to indicate preference for boys or are the boys admitted in higher numbers at traditional LAC's - like Vassar? In other words, are the statistics "plain and clear" on US News website or is there manipulation in girls vs boys admittance stats?

Thanks

On average, since close to 60% of college applicants are female, any non-tech school with a 50:50 ratio has to be giving a small tip to males. Also, previous all-girls schools are looking for the right men. However, there are exceptions....for example, I believe Dartmouth has more male apps than female.

An easy way to do your own statistical analysis is to check the school's website to see if they report on the common data set. If so, apps are broken down by sex, and you can calc acceptance rates for each.

The Numbers do not make sense. For example, Boston U is 59% female and 41% male, yet only SLIGHTLY more females were accepted (1 or 2%) than males. I do not see male preference. Anything hidden????

nope, no preference for males at BU....but, a possible preference for females or they just have stronger apps.

According to BU's common data set: males were 41% of applicants, but are only 39% of the enrolled class. The acceptance rates for each sex was 57% female, and 53% male.
