Hey! I was just wondering if having braces would affect my chances of getting in to college. I’m a junior, but my family has never been able to afford them until now, so I’m not sure if I should just stick with my teeth until after acceptance to a college Musical Theatre program or get them and hope for the best. Does anyone know of someone who got accepted while auditioning with braces? How will they affect my chances? Anything helps!
My S had a successful audition season with braces. He even got a summer stock gig with braces. He has another 6 months or so before they come off.
My son had braces at his first three auditions. He is currently attending one of those schools.
I would not worry about it at all. As someone who had to have braces in college due to a surgery, I’d rather have done it BEFORE.
I’m sure you’ll be fine with the braces, but just to throw it out there, you might want to look into Invisalign. I believe they’re a little more expensive but you wear them for a shorter period of time. My daughter had a pretty bad snaggle-tooth as well as crowding/overbite and her teeth were almost 100% straight in 9 months. She wore them for 18 months total and the last set served as the retainer. You take them out to eat and in special cases she took them out to sing, although having them in didn’t impact her voice.
