agghhh braces suck. I've had them for along time now, but I need to get surgery before I can take them off (hopefully they'll come off by this december, february the latest) . I honestly don't think anyone will care if you're wearing braces or not. Just try to be careful not to eat hardthings. And about the food sticking between braces, just carry around a tooth brush in your backpack or whatever and go to the bathroom to check your mouth after eating.

I got braces in June. I thougt it would be a big deal but it really hasnt been. At orientation I saw some people from high school and throughout the whole 2 days they didint mention anything about me having braces. Not many people noticed at work either. So I dont really expect anything when I leave for college.

Also, if you have braces, make sure you buy Colgate Phos-Flur. It's a Flouride rinse that you should use a few nights a week to prevent plaque from forming around your braces.

Even though I've been brace-free for six years, I still use this.

My best guy friend has braces, and he's 21. Trust me when I say it has never stopped him from getting girls. You just have to work it like you own those braces, and act like they don't bother you at all. Braces aren't a big deal. People in college are generally adults, and don't give a crap what you do with your mouth.

My sis's best friend recently had to get her braces put back on because she never wore her retainer. She's 23. After all the time and trouble that went into my braces, it's one mistake I'll NEVER make. I didn't really think much about them the last time I saw her, but the braces really didn't stand out.

I had braces for 5 years but it was 3-8th grade. I wear top and bottoms retainers now, at night only. Keep up by going to an orthodontist near schools for check ups (even if you leave major repair work and changes to your home orthodontist), and eat correctly for your kind of braces. Stay away from "forbidden foods". If you do everything correctly the first time, then you'll have a smooth ride and you can get them off at the first specified time and be done with them. My retainers are only known to my roommate; I can take them off for the daytime. Be good the first time around and you won't have to keep them on extra long!

I saw this girl who recently got her braces off and it looked so disgusting because her teeth were yellow where the braces used to be. I'll make sure to remember this recommendation, I'm getting braces in a couple of weeks!

Actually, with invisalign you almost never see your orthodontist. Whereas with regular braces they have to be adjusted every now and then, with invisialign after the initial molds and fitting you get the box of aligners for your whole treatment, and you only go back maybe once or twice the whole time to check they're working right.

startobe, it's easier said than done. Part of the reason I wore mine so long is becaause I NEVER wore my rubber bands. But if your getting traditional braces, then just do what they tell you to do and don't do what your not supposed to. If you're constantly breaking things, the treatment moves in circles. They don't advance unless everything is exactly the way it is supposed to be on your next appointment.

I had braces from my senior year of hs to christmas of my sophomore year of college. It wasnt awkward or anything. People were actually very supportive and complementary after i got them off. It was nice b/c i thought it would make me socially outcast

You're lucky, flgirl. I was soooo bummed when almost no one noticed me not wearing braces after wearing them the entire time I had been in high school. :(

That's not a bad thing. It would be bad for everyone to notice because that means that ur braces were large and obvious. So be happy :)

Hmm, never thought of it that way. Oh well, I don't care about it anymore anywa. That was 6 months ago.

i just got my braces off 2 days ago :) it shouldn't matter if you have them in college, just find a doctor near campus

Hey ivyguy, doesn't it look like your teeth aren't as straight as they could be????? I thought that, and that they had tried for so long to get them perfect that they just gave up. But it's just that you haven't seen your teeth in so long, that's all. Soon they'll look as straight as they are. :)

my braces werent big an noticable. My speech changed after I got them off and that is what people complimented me on as well.

I was supposed to get my braces off the summer before I went off to college, but it got delayed, so I will have to get them off sometime in the winter of my freshman year.
I just hope that it won't give me a negative first image.

o god my expander made me sound ridiculous when I'd talk (MOSTLY when I first got it). Saying walkie-talkie was hell hahaha
