There is no pain at all but sometimes i feel it would be so much better if my teeth were perfect.

I have braces right now and I'm a freshman. There's only pain after I visit the orthodontist (during my breaks), and that pain only lasts for about 2 days. It's not complete unbearable. :)

I'm also considering getting braces again. I was actually wondering how to coordinate visits to the orthodontist, as I go home to California for breaks and go to school in Massachusetts. And I've also heard that if I get braces again, then my insurance won't cover it. (It covered about half the cost the last time.) Has anyone else gone through a second round of braces by now?

I don't think there's anything wrong with slightly imperfect teeth. I have an overbite and a little crookedness on the bottom, but it doesn't bother me. People tell me I have a pretty smile all the time. So unless you just got horribly malformed teeth I wouldn't worry about and save yourself the pain of braces.

Thanks for making me feel better. :)

I'm not a fan of big gaps or teeth that look like they're trying to escape from their mouths, or anything, but I actually like when guys have slightly crooked teeth.

thanks for the feedback yall. ima talk to my ortho and see whats up.

I had braces for my first 3 semesters (and my first 3 internships) THey suck. People say they notice, but you know they do, and it's hard to be taken seriously in a professional setting when you look like you're 13. You're always carded.

In the end it's totally worth it - now i'm hyper-sensitive to bad teeth. Get them, you'll be glad you did in the long run. And you'll find some people who have them, and it'll be a good conversation starter.

One piece of advice: get the ceramic ones - at least on top, no matter what (more expensive, but definately worth it)

One of my school's Latin teachers had braces a while back. It was a bit weird, but I don't think it caused anyone to take her any less seriously.

The only reason I got them is because my front two teeth were pretty crooked and it was very obvious. Definitly looking forward to getting them off though. ^^

My orthodontist spent 20 minutes explaining to my father and me why I needed braces (and why I wasn't eligible for Invisalign--only metal brackets!)...then he made the mistake of complimenting my smile by saying he liked how my mouth/bite was naturally wide or something...so much for convincing me that I needed braces! Sometimes a perfect bite isn't necessary.
Ever see Adriana Lima's gap-teeth?

Sure, you can wear braces when you're in college. You're not that old. Haven't you seen middle-aged people with braces? Wear them if you need them. Nobody really pays big attention to them.

there are movie stars that wear braces too. Just make sure not to cut your lover's tongue

anyone here get braces for the 2nd time? did he/she charge again? was it cheaper?

make sure you wear the retainer they give you after you get them off. You might be totally sick of all orthodontostry, but your teeth can shift really fast.

got them in today
ouchie :(

i can't eat

I'm a senior in high school and I just got braces the beginning of this school year. I'll have them about halfway through my freshman year of college. Not exactly the first impression I wanted to make, with my big ol' metal mouth, but honestly, no one notices them if you get clear upper brackets and clear bands, as long as you keep your teeth clean. The only people who seem to notice are the people who knew you BEFORE the braces. Then it's more of a "When did you get braces?" kind of reaction. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

P.S. USNA, I'm so sorry. They're like hell when you first get them. I had an expander that just got taken off today (WOOOHOO!) and the whole ordeal is just hellish. You think you'll never, ever get used to it, but you will. :3 Also, if you're self-conscious, play up your eyes with make-up and just wear simple lipgloss on your lips to draw the attention away from your mouth. Whatever you do, don't stop smiling or laughing. That just looks suspicious...XD

And! Food tips! When I first got mine on it even hurt to slurp soup just because of the pressure on my gums/teeth. Try to buy some soup that you love that doesn't have anything in it that you'd need to chew - tomato soup for example. Every time I get my braces tightened, I go stock up on "chicken and stars" soup from Campbells...LOL. The pain after they put them on or tighten them usually goes away in 5-7 days the first few times, in my experience. The pain time gets shorter every time. They tightened mine today when they took the expander off and I'm not feeling anything. It's been about six months I've had them on.

Good luck :3

Thanks for the advice! Need to buy soup now
and noodles

bump bump bump?

so the question remains: what happens when you actually lose them? the braces i mean. then you're pretty much screwed arent ya :)
