OK, I tried to find Part I. But try doing a search on the word "brag". Yeah, right. Hundreds of parents discussing their kids, and you're looking for the word "brag". Seventeen pages of the word "brag"!

I also got this news on the same day that Shauna announced her news, so I wanted to wait a day or two. No way I want to take any of the excitement away from her great news :) Congrats!

And for the newbies, this is a thread we started a while back, just for when you had some exciting news about your kid that didn't exactly fit anywhere else.

Now that I've explained all that, here goes! We have a theater in the area, Croswell Opera House. The best way I can explain it is I mentioned to someone that it was once step above community theater, and I was informed it was three or four steps above community theater! Most of the adults drive at least an hour each way to perform in this theater, and there always seems to be at least one equity actor in the show.

Anyway, we just got the word that Stephanie got accepted into one of the shows for the summer! They are doing "Chicago". I have no idea what part she got, but I do know that they only accepted 8 females, so that made her feel good.

The only bad part is she will be home the 14th-ish of May, and they want to start rehearsal on the 6th. So it looks like we get to drive to Decatur (6 hours) on the 6th and bring her back. Then Grandma & Grandpa will take her back on Sunday. Then we get to drive out there again the following week! At least now we know how we are going to get all her stuff home for the summer.

With all the good things happening for CC folks, we need to resurrect the Brag thread and no one better to do it than you Peggy. And how thoughtful to wait after Shauna's news - you're the best! No wonder the world is tilting in your direction again. Can't wait to tell my D the good news!

Great news Peggy! Thanks for sharing with us....we all remember your daughter's search last year...and your stamina through the process. She certainly deserves this plum! ENJOY!

Actually having your news and Shauna's at the same time is particularly special and will help all of us parents of Jrs. as we project for next year. Congratulations to her Peggy.

Peggy, having lived in Adrian for a number of years and living in MI again, I am quite familiar with the Croswell. Congratulations to your wonderful daughter on her HUGE accomplishment! Please be sure to post her performance dates (and her role, when you know); my daughter and I will be sure to be in the audience for one of her shows.

And while I'm on the bragging thread...my daughter and I just returned from NYC and her one-night performance (with 49 other kids) at the Imperial Theatre on Broadway. If that wasn't enough of a blessing, we got home to an acceptance letter from the U-M All-State Choir program at Interlochen this summer. Good grief, I hope some of this good luck carries over to next year when she's applying to colleges, but no matter what, it's been a memorable and humbling few months.

Peggy - I'm soooo thrilled for you guys! That's great...I know you had your fingers crossed about the Croswell audition and I'm so thrilled she got it! Hooray for last year's underdogs....They're all on top now! Yay! It just proves to all of us that hard work and dedication DO pay off!

Peggy and mezzomom, I live in MI and I've never heard of the Croswell! We're here only a fairly short time (we lived in CT and PHILLY, theatermom!) Congratulations to you, Peggy! How wonderful to be one of only 8, wow. I will learn about it and hope to see a show this summer. And mezzomom, UM All State Choir is fabulous. You'll meet Dr. Jerry Blackstone, he is one of the best in the world. The good luck will surely continue as you begin the college audition process. But you are so right, it is completely memorable and VERY humbling to experience our talented children's lives. May we all live long enough and stay healthy enough to enjoy it for a very long time!

Congratulations to your daughter. That is such a great show! What a way for her to spend the summer. Thank you for starting up this thread, it is great to hear all this good news!

(I was a cheerleader in high school and its seems to have carried on into my adulthood, I love being a cheerleader for the kids!)

Stephanie was so nice when we visited Millikin. I'm glad to hear that good things are happening.

D just finished playing Adelaide in Guys and Dolls at HS. The show sold out every night and ended with a standing ovation on closing night. Then last night she was awarded "Student of the Year" for English. Not as great as Stephanie and Shauna, but bragging rights just the same.

PSU casts one of their fall shows in the Spring before the semester ends. This coming fall they will be doing Bat Boy and my D just found out this morning that she was cast as Shelley. I guess we'll be spending the summer listen to the Bat Boy recording!

Peggy,
Sorry to be so tardy, but I too want to add my congratulations to your D. "Chicago" is such a fun show! I hope she'll have a wonderful experience.

Mezzomom, Fosselover and Bdwaymom,
Thanks for sharing your D's good news. I love reading about the good things happening for these talented kids. Brava!

I have a small brag of my own. My D just finished her freshman year at Florida State. She was the only freshman girl to be cast in the fall musical, "Oklahoma". Some of you may remember that she was the swing for the women's ensemble. During the rehearsals for that show, she filled in for every single woman at one time or another. She also ended up filling in at every performance. D was also cast in the spring musical, "Evita". Well, at the end of last week, FSU held their 1st ever "Tony" style award show. They called their show the Encore Awards. There were several categories, such as best actress in a musical, best actor in a play, best costumes, etc. My D was one of 4 kids nominated for outstanding freshman. She was nominated for her work in "Oklahoma". I wish I could say she won, but the award went to a techie. D was not surprised since the tech students work on all shows produced by the School of Theatre. My D is only known by students who worked on the 2 musicals. But, she was very pleased to be one of the 4 freshmen nominees.

I can hardly believe I just wrote that D has finished her freshman year. Juries were yesterday, the freshman acting showcase is tonight, and her one and only final is Tuesday. This year has flown!

Congrats Dancersmom...sounds like your D is another one of those students who landed JUST where she needs to be. Kudos to her for an outstanding freshman year!

Congrats to your dd. Sounds like she had a wonderful Freshman year. I know it's hard to believe these kids are getting so old already. My "baby" is starting the PA high school in August, and I'm sending off my oldest to college. boo hoo.

Wow, Dancersmom, seems like she JUST started. Sounds like the program has been perfect for her and she has really spread her wings there and achieved a lot in her freshmen year!

BdwayMom, I have been away and just read about your D's casting as Shelley and yahoo! I just told my daughter who is in bed and she is very happy for your daughter!!! My D loves Bat Boy! I don't have any brag to share but just wanna say that my D is in a professional production of Bat Boy this summer too! It is a local theater that brings in professional actors, some equity from NY to do a summer show so they use adult actors (even though Shelley is a teen character in the show). My daughter was asked to be in the show as she won't be gone all summer as in the past when she can never do summer shows in our state. She will play Ruthie but gets to understudy Shelley who will be played by an adult actress from NY. She is happy to do the show cause she loves that musical and cause she is just a kid ;-). It is not a big deal but only mentioned it cause maybe one day our daughters can chat about Bat Boy this summer!

congrats to all the other news on this thread!
Susan
PS, while my daughter is happy with her college choice, we are sorry she won't get to go to college with your D who she absolutely loved ;-)

Susan,
Same back at ya! I know my D loved meeting your daughter as well, but also knew that NYU had always been one of her top choices. I remember discussing the Bat Boy production that your D was going to this summer and am so glad that she'll still be able to perform in it. My D is very excited to do this role as well and I'm sure the girls will chat online about it as the summer progresses. Maybe your daughter will give her some tips about it as mone will be studying the script during the summer while yours is performing in it.
One thing that I love about many of the MT programs is that kids know other kids in all of the programs and are so supportive of each other. UM kids have come to PSU to see productions and vice versa and my D and friends have been to NY and Pittsburgh this year to see friends or friends of friends perform.I am sure that many of the friendships that have been forged from performing, or during the audition process or just here on CC will continue hopefully into their performing days years from now!
Much love to your D...we think about her and her progress often and are cheering for her to be back on her feet ASAP!
