Brag Sheet

Just out of curiosity...did the adcoms start looking at the ED applications yet?

Actually yes -- the adcoms began reviewing ED files in earnest today. Currently there is just over a 1000 ED applications, so they are excited to get started before the Thanksgiving break. They have a few weeks of heavy reading now.

oh my god, over a 1000 ED applications?? That is QUITE the increase.

1000--isnt that more than usual??

Since there are so many ED applicants...will the acceptance rating decrease, or will the portion of the class that is filled by ED applicants increase?

(I am pretty sure that the acceptance rating will decrease...I'm just looking for a way to make myself feel more optimistic...)

yeah, i'm wondering about that, too...

i heard they fill 1/3 of the freshman class every year with the ed applicants, which means that of the 1000 income freshman, about 330 are from ed. so im gonna guess that the acceptance rate goes doooowwnnnnn...:(

wow...this is REALLY depressing...and the worst part is that we can't do anything to make the situation better...

Laxfan...can you please explain the whole decision-making process...

Like, do the adcoms just read an application once and then decide if you are accepted or rejected...or is there more to it?

(I'm pretty sure that there's more to it...)

I may actually cry. 1000 ED applications. My god.

come on guys, be tough, dont cry. i, on the other hand, can cry cuz im a girl....
haha jk. on a more serious note tho, ive decided that since we've already handed in our apps, theres nothing we can do about it now...so just relax, and let the drama wait til dec 16th. :)

"come on guys, be tough, dont cry."

haha...so true...most people in my school probably don't even think that I am capable of crying...

a thousand ed applicants..... wow. my life basically just ended.

alright i think we jhu ed cc'ers should all come together, and pray that out of the 1000 apps, 600 of them are like people with 1700 sat, 2.5 gpa, and like crappy essays.......jk
and2006, we all feel the same way

that sucks. i dont even know if my counselor recommendation went in because i never got the return receipt - -++++++ just my luck.

we were supposed to get a return receipt....what?????

I knew that posting the ED app. total was over 1000 would cause a stir on the CC boards, but I was still shocked at how overly stressed you all get about things you have no control over.

Yes, the ED app. will probably be around 1050 applications this year. Yes, this is a large increase - close to a 45% increase from 2004.

As far as acceptance rate, # of accepts vs. defers vs. denies, and # of spots filled in the class by ED students -- none of those decisions have been made and won't be made until first reads are done on all the files. Clearly though with such an increase in applications, expect the acceptance rate to decline from previous years -- especially since it seems likely the adcoms will want to stick with between 25-30% of the class coming from ED.

Last thing -- I know none of you ever heed my advice, but try to listen this time...For your own sanity TAKE A BREAK. Enjoy Thanksgiving, focus on your studies, work on apps. for other schools just in case, and most importantly -- STOP CHECKING CC EVERY WAKING MINUTE!!!

Go Have Some Fun - and hold the stress at least until Dec. 13 or 14. ED applicants, there is nothing you can do now.

nanaijuh: oh no, when i sent it from the post office, i just paid for the little green thing that gets the return receipt. and i found out my thing went through. yayyyyy. haha.
