Brain and Cognitive Science major questions

I found some older threads but was hoping for some more updated info from some current/recent students majoring in “9” as they called it.

  1. How much programming is needed for the major. I see 6.0001 required as part of Tier 1 but are there any other programing requirements - especially for someone doing the Cellular/Molecular path? How about programming in the Computational classes?

  2. How large is the undergrad cohort? Last thread I found was 47 graduates in '09. Has it grown significantly? How about the demographics regarding male/female ratio? Does it tend to be more female dominated than other majors?

Thanks in advance for any help.

@Dolemite 1. 6.0001 and 6.0002 are the only CS requirements I see for course 9 (although it usually can be replaced with 6.01)… 6.041 is more of a math class and is fairly similar to 18.600, and I don’t think 6.041 has any programming. I can’t speak for the rest of the courses since I’m not course 9 (I’m 18-C) but you can get a good idea of how much programming is needed by flipping through the course catalog and looking for pre-requisites.

I found enrollment demographics on the website. Looks like the major is female dominated with 59/72 undergrads women.
