Brainstorming Tips?

I am almost done with my college application for my first choice school; however, I still need to write the Personal Statement essay. After having the application for nearly 2 months, I am still trying to figure out what I could possibly write about to show who I am to the college adcoms. Any advice for brainstorming would be appreciated! (The topics are from the common application...)

I wrote a long post about college essays... brainstorming, revising, etc. It's called "Essay Writing Advice", it's in "College Admissions" and it's a few days old.

If you're still having trouble, I have something I copied from a few websites last year about brainstorming, PM me with your email address and I can send that to you if you like. Feel free to PM me if you want to run any topics by me.

Just know that ANY topic can work. Don't worry about being cliche or trying to be "unique" and don't worry that you don't have any life-changing experiences to write about. I wasted a lot of time worrying about that. Just write about something that shows who you are, and you'll have a great, unique essay because no one has experienced exactly what you have, reacted the same way, and learned the same things from those experiences.

Just think. There are billions of people on the planet. None of them, however, are exactly like you.

Why is that? How is it that there are so many people, but you are different from each and every one of them? Is it your attitude, your personality, your activities? Maybe your experiences? Make a list of what exactly sets you apart from everyone around you. It doesn't have to be monumental, but maybe something as simple as "i like to bake cookies every sunday." Perhaps nothing on the list will be a good essay topic, but it will get you acquainted with the best starting point of all - yourself as an individual.

Thanks!!!!
