Brand new for freshman: Honors Interdisciplinary Symposia

Does anyone know much about the upcoming Honors Interdisciplinary Symposia, which is brand new for honors freshman in the Fall? We received an email with attachment of description of three choices and they’re supposed to be very unique, and team-taught by a group of “master teachers” from diverse disciplines. It sounds like it might be interesting to me(mom), but not sure son knows enough to know whether it’s something he should/wants to do.

They expect the programs to fill up quickly. Anyone have any feedback, please?

If its like the Liberal Arts Honors program, a number of your classes are assigned automatically so that when you sit down to register for your others, you can grab them immediately. Otherwise, you get into a contest with others who are registering at the same time and can end up revamping your schedule for a fit and not getting exactly the classes you want when you want them.

My daughter was interested in all of them, but primarily the technology and culture courses. I thought it was funny because the description of the technology course is very similar to what I teach in an IB school. My daughter, who didn’t take my class and now regrets it, finds the material in my class very interesting and would love to have it at the college level.

The biggest problem I see is trying to figure out how she will be able to take the required classes in a Learning Community and one of these classes. I told her to sign up and that the problem will be solved at Camp War Eagle.

I contacted the head guy and immediately heard back. Basically, this is a pre-registration, so if they change their mind there is no problem getting out of it. …nothing to lose in signing up

The classes looked really interesting to me, but I’m just scared of getting in over my head first semester :(

alwaysandforever, that is exactly my son’s concern. (and mine, too) The head guys was pretty clear that it’s only a preregistration, so you can get out of it with no problem. You may want to email him yourself. His recent reminder email has his name at the end of the letter.
