Brandeis for a Catholic

So all the colleges I applied to were Jesuit schools (BC, Georgetown, 2 Loyolas, Fordham) but for some reason, I felt drawn to Brandeis, mostly bc of their professors and history program. I’m super liberal but culturally very Catholic. I know Brandeis is a Jewish school, do you think I would fit in ok? I wouldn’t share the same upbringing as the majority as I have always gone to Catholic school and live in Pittsburgh, a mainly Catholic and Eastern-Orthodox city.

This is from 2009, but should be relevant today. If you do a search there are a few other threads too. http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/brandeis-university/784393-non-jewish-students-at-brandeis.html

Have you had a chance to visit the school? Once you get accepted you could reach out to some current students and ask how they are doing – good luck!

Brandeis is a completely secular school that actually has a minority of Jewish students today. It was founded under Jewish auspices but less than half the students are Jewish. So you will be in the majority as a non-Jew.

It’s a very tolerant school, you will be fine and will be among good company. You will also find plenty of similar people.

My girlfriend who I met at Brandeis is catholic, and she did very fine. They have a Catholic student club that holds mass every week, as well as a priest I’m pretty sure. I’m jewish so I don’t know that much about it all.

The percentage of Jews is the highest of any secular college, but it is still less than 50 percent.

It’s 49 percent Jewish!

Our daughter isn’t Jewish and loves Brandeis - she’s a sophomore. She enjoys the professors and has taken some history classes, although she just declared an English major. She felt drawn to Brandies after she attended Admitted Students Day, and has no regrets.
