Has anyone ever been to Brandeis or know anything about the university? I've been told that it's "where all the smart jewish kids who don't get into Princeton" go. While I know that's not particularly true, isn't it true that Brandeis is still a predominantly-Jewish university?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I visited over spring break. The student body struck me as friendly and passionate; I saw various posters for Darfur and other causes. The campus was not too beautiful- tons of construction. I think it's a great target/low reach school. My tour guide said he gets to know his professors, just like in a small liberal arts school. I am definitely going to apply, plus it's right outside of Boston.

I was just there a couple of weeks ago. its definitely very jewish. i love boston and its a nice school, everyone is really active and friendly, but its not my favorite school. i like the academic programs. the student body works a lot with the surrounding community. i heard that the faculty is very accessible. they seem very liberal and accepting. theres construction going on.......
the tour guides are generally ED-Brandeis-fans, but you should visit. Megabus is great

I visited and got accepted to Brandeis but decided not to go for a lot of the reasons many people do. I had the impression that it was very academically oriented, like, even the 'softer' majors were difficult. If I was going for a science i would have liekd it more because of all the research opportunities.
As far as students, they seemed nice, but fairly quiet and conservative. The campus seemed active though.
Nice place, but it definitely has a personality of it's own, and you have ot be compatable with it. I wasn't.

hey...i'm a rising senior at Brandeis so I would be happy to answer specific questions. i truly love it here and think that two things set it apart. i can go on and on about so many facets of brandeis life but i'll be very brief here...first, is the quality of the academic experience in terms of very small classes and individual attention given to students. secondly, there is something very unique about the student body. i've just found the students here to be very geniune and down-to-earth. you just see that when walking around campus and seeing how students interact with each other and the staff such as the cafeteria staff members.

brandeis is about half Jewish and to be honest you probably will feel Jewish culture around you. it is what it is and it probably won't change anytime soon.

the school spirit is rising. there is more fan attendance as our sports teams get batter. (both are men's and women's basketball teams made it to the to the NCAA finals.) there are many special game days to lure fans in such as giveaways and free food and there are fan buses for play offs at other schools. hope this answers your question, dou.

There are also many scholarships that are solely merit based such as awarding 50 Justice Brandeis Scholarships (four years of full tuition) and 50 Presidential Awards (four years of offering 25,000.) See Brandeis Admissions | Costs/Financial Aid | Scholarships for more details.
