Brandeis is a reach for me...chances?

I’m going for Bio hopefully
No one on the chances boards seemed to know what Brandeis was…

Weighted GPA: 3.7, self-calculated top 26% (school doesn’t rank or do unweighted GPA)
SAT: 2070 CR: 670 M: 690 W: 710
SAT II: Bio M: 700, Math II: 660

Essay and Recs are great, couldn’t get an interview, but I emailed them requesting an off campus one and they said they would put it in my file that I inquired for one

Previous classes: All honors (English, Precalc, Spanish, Chem, etc.), Photography and AP Bio junior year

Anyone?

ED would have helped.
I usually put people in the top 25% with at least a 700 on all three SAT sections as a “good chance” candidate.

You seem to have just missed on these, but only by a hair.
I would classify it a “reach” for you, but not a “high reach” so you have a shot.

Good luck!

soze, i have similar SAT’s as the OP, but i am in the top 10% of my class with a 3.9 GPA and a fair amount of APs. i was really proud of my letter and i also submitted a creative writing supplement. how do you figure my chances are? brandeis is a reach for me too, and i also applied RD

mylondoncalling:

Let’s be real here:
Top 10% with a 3.9 GPA makes you a reasonable candidate at ANY UNIVERSITY. Don’t let anybody tell you otherwise.

I would classify Brandeis as a high-match/low-reach for you, meaning that you have an excellent chance.

Did you have an interview?

Also ED really helps in situations like this, but that doesn’t help you now.

Good luck and if it doesn’t work out for you at Brandeis, I’m sure you will get into someplace excellent.

laurenrp,
I agree with Soze that Brandeis is a “reach” for you, especially with that 3.7 GPA being weighted and the school rank being the 26th percent. Not impossible, but a real reach.

mylondoncalling,
I think Brandeis is a match for you, and probably a good fit. You likely wouldn’t make it into an Ivy league school, and I’d consider Brandeis to be in that 2nd tier of schools (below the Ivies) reputation-wise, although I think one could get a better education at Brandeis than many of the Ivies.

yeah but the rank is self-calculated just to give people an idea of where i stand, the school does NOT rank students.
Also my gpa went up to a 3.72 :</p>

laurenrp,
You asked for an opinion, and that is what you got–just one person’s “opinion” based on looking at the profile for accepted students in prior years.

Good luck, and I hope to see you posting here soon that you were accepted and are attending!

thanks for the positive feedback, i’ve just been somewhat discouraged by some of my deferrals from schools that have similar acceptance rates/rankings to brandeis :-/

i tried to have an interview during a time that my dad could take me to MA, but everything available conflicted with his work schedule

i hope this doesnt hurt my chances because the website said they consider the student’s level of interest a very important factor. i would have applied early action if that was an option, but i want to be able to look at other schools’ offers before making my decision. do RD applicants still get good financial aid packages? is brandeis generous with merit scholarships as well?

thanks for your help :)

Well, you could have had an interview with an alumni representative in your area.
Financial aid will be available regardless if you applied ED or RD.
